ACCELERATED TEACHER PROFESSIONAL PATHWAY (ATPP)

The Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), has introduced the Accelerated Teacher Professional Pathway (ATPP) to provide opportunities for teachers to obtain professional teaching qualifications and advance their careers.

The programme is designed to support teachers and educators who are currently teaching but do not yet possess a professional teaching qualification.

ATPP provides an opportunity for eligible teachers to strengthen their professional preparation while continuing to contribute to teaching and learning.

ABOUT ATPP

The Accelerated Teacher Professional Pathway provides two professional qualification pathways designed to meet the needs of different categories of teachers.

1. ATPP POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (PGDE)

This pathway is designed for eligible graduates who already hold a university degree but do not have a professional teaching qualification.

2. ATPP PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (PDE)

This pathway is designed for eligible teachers who require a professional teaching qualification at the diploma level.

The programme provides an opportunity for teachers from different educational backgrounds to pursue professional teaching qualifications and strengthen their preparation for the classroom.

WHO IS ATPP FOR?

The Accelerated Teacher Professional Pathway is intended to support a broad range of teachers and educators, including:

1. Non-professional teachers with non-education degrees who are currently teaching.
2. HND, ND and OND holders who are currently teaching.
3. Non-professional teachers working in public education settings.
4. Teachers working in non-state education settings.
5. Teachers in ECCDE, primary and secondary education.
6. Teachers and educators working in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
7. Educators working in non-formal and alternative education settings.
8. Community instructors.
9. Volunteer educators.
