Role Details

•  Locations: Sokoto, Borno (Maiduguri), Gombe, Jos (Plateau), Kano, and Yola (Adamawa)

Job Purpose

The Internal Control Officer is responsible for ensuring that the bank’s operations are conducted in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The role focuses on identifying risks, preventing fraud, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records at the branch and regional levels.

Key Responsibilities

•  Operational Oversight: Conduct regular and ad-hoc reviews of branch operations to ensure compliance with internal control frameworks.

•  Risk Mitigation: Identify potential operational risks and recommend effective control measures to prevent financial loss or reputational damage.

•  Audit & Compliance: Monitor transactions to ensure they align with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations and internal bank policies.

•  Fraud Prevention: Investigate suspicious transactions and strengthen safeguards against fraudulent activities.

•  Reporting: Prepare comprehensive reports for management regarding control weaknesses, compliance levels, and recommended remedial actions.

Qualifications and Requirements

•  Education: Bachelor’s Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

•  Professional Certification: Possession of relevant professional certifications (e.g., ICAN, ACCA, CIA, or CISA) is a significant advantage.

•  Experience: Proven experience in internal control, audit, or branch operations within the banking sector.

•  Analytical Skills: High level of numeracy, attention to detail, and the ability to spot irregularities in complex data.

•  Integrity: Unwavering commitment to ethical standards and confidentiality.

•  Location: Candidates must be willing to work in or be residents of the specified locations (Sokoto, Borno, Gombe, Jos, Kano, or Yola).
