African Development Bank Internship Program 2026 – Session 2 (Paid Opportunity)
The African Development Bank (AfDB) is now accepting applications for Session 2 of its 2026 Internship Program. This is an excellent opportunity for students across Africa to gain professional experience in development work while contributing to transformative projects that drive economic growth and social progress on the continent.
About the Bank
Founded in 1964, the African Development Bank is the premier pan-African development institution, supporting economic growth and social progress across Africa. With 81 member states, including 54 African countries, the Bank’s mission is to provide financial and technical support for transformative projects that reduce poverty and promote inclusive, sustainable growth.
The Bank’s Ten-Year Strategy (2023–2032) identifies four key priorities to accelerate Africa’s development:
- Unlocking capital at scale
- Reforming Africa’s financial architecture
- Leveraging the demographic boom for economic growth
- Building climate-resilient infrastructure and value addition
The internship program is part of the Bank’s Talent Management Framework and provides students with practical experience while also helping the Bank identify potential candidates for future recruitment.

Program Details
- Session Start: July 2026
- Duration: 3 to 6 months (internship is authorized only once per candidate)
- Location: Selected interns may be placed at AfDB Headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, regional or country offices. Remote internships are possible depending on the hiring unit.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this internship, applicants must:
- Be nationals of AfDB member countries
- Be at least the age of majority in their country and not more than 30 years old
- Be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program, or have graduated within the past year
- Provide proof of enrollment or a copy of their degree certificate
- Be fluent in English or French
- Have working knowledge of standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); SAP knowledge is a plus
Fields of Study
Interns are selected from fields aligned with the Bank’s Job Families, including but not limited to:
- Agriculture, Engineering, Human Capital, Investment, Finance, Risk Management, Sustainability
- Operations Management and Programming, Procurement, Delivery & Performance Monitoring
- Economics, Statistics, Data Management, Governance, Knowledge Management
- Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Real Estate Services
- Communication, Legal, Translation & Interpretation, Corporate Governance
- Any other field relevant to the Bank’s operations
Special consideration will be given to candidates working on projects directly related to AfDB’s mission.
