AEIP Scholars Programme 2026–2027
The Africa Europe Innovation Partnership AEIP Scholars Programme is a collaborative research impact initiative bringing African and European scholars together to advance joint research, strengthen Africa Europe cooperation, and develop practical solutions to shared global challenges.
PROGRAMME BENEFITS
10 scholars will be selected and matched into 5 Africa Europe scholar pairs
Joint research and collaborative research outputs
Peer learning, research and innovation opportunities
Science communication and knowledge exchange
Development of practical, solution oriented innovations
The top 3 scholar pairs will be selected as finalists
Finalist pairs will be sponsored to present their collaborative outputs at the AEIP Stakeholder Meeting in Europe in June 2027
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must:
Be aged 25 to 35
Be based in Africa or Europe
Be enrolled in a PhD, Postdoc, or further studies at the time of application
Have an ongoing or completed research project, thesis, or dissertation aligned with the AU EU Innovation Agenda Capacities for Science action
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are invited to submit an abstract of their research.
Applications will be assessed based on:
Relevance
Academic quality
Innovation potential
Alignment with Africa Europe cooperation priorities
FOCUS OF COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH
Selected scholars will be paired according to shared or complementary research themes.
Each pair will develop a solution based study addressing challenges relevant to both Africa and Europe and design a practical innovation derived from their research.
Solutions will be assessed based on:
Impact on women and youth
Potential to strengthen people, communities, and institutions
Strength of the solution model
Technology driven approach
Feasibility and realism

September 2026 Selection and pairing
September 2026 to March 2027 Collaboration and research
First half of April 2027 Evaluation and selection of finalists
June 2027 AEIP Stakeholder Meeting
