The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is inviting qualified and interested candidates to apply for the following technical positions in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.

ABOUT AFENET

The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is a non-profit networking and service alliance of Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programs (FELTPs) and other applied epidemiology training programmes. Established in 2005, AFENET operates in over 31 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa and the World Health Organization African Region (WHO-AFRO).

The organization supports Ministries of Health in strengthening public health systems through sustainable training, technical assistance and capacity development.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS

  1. Data Technical Officer II

Location: Abuja, FCT

Key Requirements

A degree in Statistics, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Public Health Informatics, Mathematics or a related field.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrable experience in data analysis and visualization.

Working knowledge of SQL, DHIS2, Excel and other data analysis or visualization tools.

Some experience in database management, digital health systems, information systems or application development.

Ability to translate programme requirements into practical technical solutions.

Strong communication and stakeholder-engagement skills. Experience working with government or public-sector stakeholders is an advantage.

Working knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging data technologies, including their application to data analysis, visualization, automation and innovative digital solutions.

Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

  1. Informatics Developer

Location: Abuja, FCT

Key Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Health Informatics, Public Health Informatics or a related field.

A postgraduate qualification in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Public Health or a related discipline is an added advantage.

At least 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in software development, digital health, health information systems, data management or a related technical field.

Demonstrable experience designing, developing, deploying, maintaining and supporting software applications.

Experience in public health, disease surveillance, immunization or health information systems is highly desirable.

Experience working with government institutions, development partners, NGOs or public health programmes is an advantage.

Technical skills and experience may include:

Software development using Java, PHP, JavaScript/TypeScript, .NET, R or equivalent programming languages.

Web and mobile application development.

Frontend frameworks such as Angular or React.

Backend and API development, including REST APIs, JSON, authentication and system integration.

Relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB or SQL Server.

Data analytics and visualization using Power BI, R, Excel, SQL or equivalent tools.

Digital health platforms, particularly DHIS2.

Interoperability, APIs, data exchange, data mapping and health information exchange concepts.

Containerization and deployment technologies such as Docker.

Integration of SMS, WhatsApp, mapping, authentication and notification services.

Application of AI-enabled tools to software development, workflow automation, data processing and innovative digital health solutions.

Understanding of data security, access control, privacy, backup and secure software development practices.
