SNV has been present in Nigeria since 2020 and is recruiting an Agribusiness and Livelihoods Advisor for one of its agriculture projects.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Agribusiness and Livelihoods Advisor will provide technical expertise and advisory support to project activities, with a strong focus on youth and women participation in agriculture.
The role will support agribusiness development, market linkages, value chain development, youth employment and entrepreneurship, partnerships and inclusive livelihood strategies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the implementation of sustainability and inclusive livelihood strategies that support youth and women as entrepreneurs, employees and job creators.
Lead agribusiness development activities at cluster level, focusing on market linkages, services and enterprise development.
Contribute to annual, quarterly and monthly planning and reporting for livestock, horticulture and market system activities.
Conduct sector assessments and market analyses to identify agribusiness opportunities for rural young women.
Develop and implement annual project activity plans in line with project targets and objectives.
Monitor implementation progress and anticipate potential challenges.
Lead activities designed to achieve youth and women participation targets and other project indicators.
Develop innovative strategies to improve the availability and market uptake of diverse, nutritious and consumer-responsive products from adapted crops.
Facilitate employability skills training and development for youth and women.
Strengthen the capacity of project partners, coaches and other stakeholders involved in youth support.
Support youth empowerment activities, including coaching, accompaniment, work readiness and market readiness.
Support research-informed policy and investment initiatives that create an enabling environment for youth groups in adapted-crop value chains.
Foster public-private partnerships and institutional coordination mechanisms.
Maintain accurate records of trained youth and young agripreneurs for coaching and market linkage support.
Lead initiatives that improve the efficiency of adapted-crop value chains and strengthen their links to markets.
Support agribusiness development services along targeted value chains.
Prepare timely reports covering youth selection, training, coaching and other project deliverables.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Master’s Degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration or a related discipline.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience.
At least 5 years of experience developing and implementing projects, preferably within large, complex or multi-sectoral programmes.
Strong knowledge and experience in value chain development and agribusiness operations.
Understanding of both development and private-sector environments.
Experience implementing value chain development activities and working with value chain stakeholders.
Strong knowledge of climate-smart agriculture and related issues in Nigeria.
Passion for creating green jobs and economic opportunities for young people.
Strong agribusiness relationship management skills.
Ability to build trust and confidence with clients, investors and other stakeholders.
Good project management skills.
Experience contributing to monitoring and evaluation systems is an advantage.
Excellent organizing, negotiation, influencing, advisory, coaching and networking skills.
Ability to work independently, take initiative and achieve targets.
Willingness to travel to project locations.
Excellent written and oral communication, reporting and presentation skills.
