The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is recruiting for two positions under its sexual and reproductive health and family planning programmes in Zamfara State.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS

1. HEALTH OUTREACH OFFICER

The Health Outreach Officer will support the implementation and expansion of quality, voluntary and client-centred family planning services through mobile outreach, community-based platforms and linkages with supported health facilities in Anka.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinate regular family planning outreach activities in underserved and hard-to-reach communities.
2. Provide and support voluntary, informed and client-centred FP counselling and services.
3. Support access to a broad range of contraceptive methods, including short-acting methods, injectables and implants.
4. Support DMPA-SC/self-injection services where applicable.
5. Strengthen referrals for LARC and other services not available during outreach.
6. Promote integration of FP with MNCH services, including postpartum family planning.
7. Work with CHWs, community volunteers, women’s groups, youth groups, PPMVs and community leaders on demand generation.
8. Support community dialogues addressing FP myths, misconceptions and barriers.
9. Develop outreach micro-plans with facilities, LGA authorities and community structures.
10. Coordinate outreach logistics, staffing, commodities, equipment and supplies.
11. Monitor FP commodity availability and maintain accurate stock records.
12. Ensure compliance with national FP guidelines, infection prevention standards and client-centred care.
13. Collect, review and report accurate outreach data.
14. Track FP indicators, referrals, method uptake, commodity availability and other programme results.
15. Work with LGA health authorities and facility teams to strengthen government ownership and sustainability.
16. Maintain confidentiality and comply with IRC safeguarding and accountability standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Degree or diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, Community Health or a related health field.
2. Valid professional registration/licence where applicable.
3. 2–3 years of relevant experience in primary healthcare, family planning, MNCH or community health programming.
4. Experience supporting mobile outreach or community-based health services.
5. Knowledge of modern contraceptive methods and FP service delivery.
6. Experience working with CHWs, community structures and government health facilities.
7. Experience in routine health data collection, reporting and basic data analysis.
8. Knowledge of infection prevention and client-centred care.
9. Training in LARC, FP, DMPA-SC/self-injection or PPFP is an advantage.
10. Humanitarian or hard-to-reach setting experience is desirable.
11. Knowledge of DHIS2/HMIS is an advantage.
12. Fluency in English and Hausa is highly desirable.
13. Relevant local language knowledge in Anka is an advantage.
14. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
15. Ability to travel approximately 10% to field locations.
16. SRH COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION ASSISTANT

The SRH Community Mobilization Assistant will support community-based activities aimed at increasing awareness, acceptance, demand and utilization of voluntary family planning and other sexual and reproductive health services among women, adolescent girls, men and boys in Anka.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conduct community assessments to identify FP barriers, misconceptions, social norms and unmet needs.
2. Implement community mobilization and demand-generation activities.
3. Conduct culturally appropriate health education on FP, contraception, birth spacing, postpartum FP, maternal and newborn health and STI prevention.
4. Address myths and misconceptions surrounding contraception.
5. Support male engagement and adolescent-responsive FP activities.
6. Identify hard-to-reach and underserved populations.
7. Strengthen community-to-facility referral systems.
8. Follow up on referrals where appropriate while maintaining confidentiality.
9. Engage traditional, religious and community leaders.
10. Organize community dialogues, meetings and sensitization sessions.
11. Support community volunteers, peer educators, CHIPS Agents, women representatives and male champions.
12. Provide day-to-day guidance to assigned community volunteers.
13. Monitor community mobilization activities and volunteer performance.
14. Maintain accurate records of mobilization activities, participants and referrals.
15. Compile weekly summaries and contribute to monthly reports.
16. Collect community-level data and participate in data quality reviews.
17. Document community feedback, success stories and lessons learned.
18. Promote available feedback and complaints mechanisms.
19. Participate in LGA and community coordination meetings.
20. Support programme assessments, surveys, training and learning activities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Registered Nurse/Midwife, Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW), Junior CHEW or equivalent relevant health qualification.
2. Additional training in community mobilization, family planning, SRH or health promotion is an advantage.
3. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in community mobilization, health promotion, SRH, family planning or a related role.
4. Experience working with community structures and volunteers.
5. Experience in stakeholder engagement and community dialogue.
6. Experience in humanitarian, fragile or hard-to-reach settings is an advantage.
7. Experience supporting FP demand generation and referral activities is desirable.
8. Experience with routine data collection and reporting.
9. Fluency in English and Hausa and/or relevant local languages in Anka is highly desirable.
10. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
11. Ability to travel approximately 10% to field locations.
