NATIONAL YOUTH DATA BANK REGISTRATION
The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the National Youth Data Bank (NYDB), a nationwide initiative to register Nigerians aged 15 to 35 and create a comprehensive database of young people across the country.
WHO CAN REGISTER?
Nigerians aged 15 to 35 years.
The registration covers young people in both the formal and informal sectors, including those involved in:
- Agriculture
- Technology
- Sports
- Creative industries
- Education
- Other sectors and areas of livelihood
WHY THE REGISTRATION?
The Federal Government says the database will help identify:
- Where young Nigerians live
- Their skills and areas of expertise
- Their employment needs
- Their skills development needs
- Appropriate government youth programmes and interventions
The information is intended to help match young Nigerians with available employment, training, skills development and other opportunities.
NATIONWIDE COVERAGE
Registration points have reportedly been established in:
- Secondary schools
- Polytechnics
- Universities
- Colleges of Education
The registration exercise is expected to expand to wards and all 774 Local Government Areas across Nigeria, with enumerators reaching informal communities and hard-to-reach areas.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The 15 to 35 age bracket follows the Nigerian Youth Policy.
The National Youth Data Bank is described as a standing government programme, with the database expected to be updated on a rolling basis as young Nigerians enter the eligible age bracket.
Young Nigerians are encouraged to participate in the registration exercise when registration points and enumerators become available in their communities.
