LOCATION
Selected candidates may be deployed to various departments at the African Development Bank Headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, as well as the Bank’s Regional and Country Offices.
Internships may be conducted remotely or on-site, depending on the requirements of the hiring unit.
ABOUT THE AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK
Established in 1964, the African Development Bank is a pan-African development institution focused on promoting economic growth and social progress across Africa.
The Bank provides financial and technical support for transformative projects aimed at promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth and reducing poverty across the continent.
The internship programme forms part of the Bank’s wider Talent Management Framework and provides students with an opportunity to gain professional and practical experience.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
The internship programme aims to:
- Provide students with professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
- Provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment.
Applicants should note that participation in the internship programme does not guarantee immediate employment with the Bank.

- Corporate Governance and Advisory Functions
- Other relevant fields that the Bank may consider applicable to its operations.
Special consideration may be given to students working on projects directly related to the mission of the African Development Bank.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
- Have attained the age of majority in their country of nationality or origin.
- Be not more than 30 years old at the time the internship commences.
- Be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree programme at a recognized public or private higher education institution.
- Alternatively, applicants may apply within one year of obtaining their Master’s degree.
- Be nationals of a member country of the African Development Bank.
- Provide a letter from their school confirming current enrolment or a copy of their qualifying degree.
- Be fluent in at least one of the Bank’s two working languages: English or French.
- Be able to use standard Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Knowledge of SAP is desirable.
INTERNSHIP DURATION AND CONDITIONS
- Internship duration will be between 3 and 6 months.
- An internship can only be granted once to any candidate.
- Selected interns may work remotely or on-site depending on the needs of their hiring unit.
- Remote interns must have access to a personal computer, reliable internet connection, and a suitable working environment.
- On-site interns are responsible for their travel to and from the Bank’s location and their personal upkeep.
- The Bank will make reasonable efforts to assist selected interns with entry and residence visas where applicable.
- Eligible interns will receive medical insurance coverage paid by the Bank during the internship period.
- Eligible interns will receive a monthly stipend.
STRATEGIC FOCUS AREAS
The internship disciplines are aligned with the Bank’s Ten-Year Strategy and gender strategy.
The programme particularly focuses on areas including agriculture, human capital, engineering, investment, sustainability, finance, governance, economics, data management, technology, communications, legal functions, procurement, risk management, and programme delivery.
