THE OPPORTUNITY
Plan International Nigeria is seeking an experienced Information Technology Officer to support its Yola office, Yobe field locations and programme teams.
The IT Officer will provide onsite and remote ICT support while helping ensure reliable, secure and effective ICT infrastructure, connectivity, systems and end-user services.
The position will work closely with the Country Office ICT team, programme teams and service providers and will contribute to country-level ICT initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
ICT INFRASTRUCTURE AND CONNECTIVITY
- Administer and maintain LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN and other network infrastructure.
- Configure, monitor and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls and wireless access points.
- Support connectivity solutions including fibre, radio, VSAT, Starlink and other wireless technologies.
- Support telecommunications and emergency communication systems.
- Maintain CCTV/IP surveillance systems, NVRs and associated network infrastructure.
- Support UPS, inverters, batteries, solar systems and other ICT power-resilience solutions.
- Monitor ICT infrastructure performance and escalate major issues.
MICROSOFT 365 AND SYSTEMS
- Provide technical support for Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive.
- Support Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD and Active Directory.
- Support user onboarding, access changes and offboarding.
- Deploy and manage laptops, desktops, mobile devices, printers and other ICT equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, operating-system and peripheral issues.
- Ensure devices are properly configured, patched, encrypted and protected.
IT SERVICE AND USER SUPPORT
- Respond to ICT incidents and service requests within agreed service levels.
- Provide onsite and remote technical support.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, requests, resolutions and escalations.
- Identify recurring technical problems and recommend sustainable solutions.
- Escalate complex incidents appropriately.
CYBERSECURITY AND DATA PROTECTION
- Implement ICT security controls in line with Plan International policies.
- Support antivirus/EDR, encryption, patch management and vulnerability remediation.
- Support MFA, access controls and identity-security measures.
- Promote secure technology practices among staff.
- Support the reporting and escalation of cybersecurity incidents.
PROGRAMME ICT SUPPORT
The IT Officer will work with programme and operations teams to identify ICT requirements and provide appropriate solutions for trainings, workshops, project locations, office setups and other programme activities.
The role will also support technology initiatives, automation and digitalization opportunities.
ASSET AND VENDOR MANAGEMENT
The successful candidate will maintain accurate records of ICT assets, support equipment lifecycle management, monitor warranties and licences, provide technical input into procurement, and support the management of ICT vendors and service providers.
BACKUP AND BUSINESS CONTINUITY
The role will support approved backup operations, disaster recovery, restoration of ICT services during disruptions and measures that strengthen ICT resilience.
DOCUMENTATION AND TRAINING
The IT Officer will maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, configurations, procedures and asset records, while also supporting ICT induction, awareness and end-user training.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should have:
- University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field.
- Completion of NYSC is compulsory.
- Minimum of 4 years’ relevant ICT, IT infrastructure, networking, systems administration or user-support experience.
- Practical experience managing Cisco Meraki network infrastructure.
- Knowledge of the Meraki Dashboard, including monitoring, configuration, troubleshooting, VLANs, wireless networks, firewall policies and VPNs.
- Experience with LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, routers, switches and firewalls.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID/Azure AD and Active Directory.
- Good knowledge of Windows operating systems, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy.
- Understanding of cybersecurity, MFA, access control, endpoint security and data protection.
- Experience supporting cloud-based applications.
- Experience with fibre, Starlink, VSAT, radio and other connectivity solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and customer-service skills.
- Ability to support technical and non-technical users effectively.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multicultural environment.
Experience working in an NGO, humanitarian or field-based environment is an advantage.
Additional experience with CCTV/IP surveillance and ICT backup-power systems, including UPS, inverters, batteries and solar systems, will also be an advantage.
