ABOUT THE INITIATIVE
Africa No Filter is looking for journalists, content creators, podcasters, vloggers, muralists and data visualizers to participate in the Voices for Climate Justice initiative.
The 12-month programme will support 15–20 storytellers with training, mentorship, content amplification and grants of up to US$4,000 to develop powerful stories that spark public conversations and inspire action on climate justice in Africa.
The initiative will explore how climate change, debt, gender and fossil fuels affect people and communities across the continent.
WHAT SELECTED STORYTELLERS WILL RECEIVE
- Training in climate justice, data storytelling and narrative framing.
- Mentorship and support from researchers and partners.
- Content amplification.
- Grants of up to US$4,000 to develop approved storytelling ideas.
- Opportunities to create research-based, accurate and engaging stories.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must:
- Be journalists, content creators, podcasters, vloggers, muralists or data visualizers aged 18 or above.
- Be based in one of the eligible countries.
- Have an active and engaged platform that has been operating for more than one year.
- Commit to producing a minimum of 4 pieces of content on gender, debt and fossil fuels over at least 6 months.
- Have a combined audience of at least 5,000 followers across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter/X and Snapchat. Journalists may demonstrate reach through publication circulation.
- Be individual applicants. Organisations and agencies are not eligible.
- Demonstrate commitment to ethical, survivor-centred storytelling and Africa No Filter’s principles.
- Submit an idea focused on climate justice, gender, debt and fossil fuels in Africa.
Content creators must be unsigned and not represented by an agent. Journalists may be affiliated with a publication provided they retain ownership and content rights.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
STEP 1: Prepare either:
A pitch deck of no more than 5 slides, OR
A video of no more than 60 seconds explaining the proposed storytelling idea.
STEP 2: Complete the online application and provide links to relevant platforms, publications or community networks, together with a short description of the audience or community to be reached.
Submissions must be in English or French.
