Apply to the GSMA Innovation Fund for Green Transition
The GSMA Innovation Fund for Green Transition for Mobile is an initiative designed to support small and growing enterprises that use mobile and digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, to tackle barriers to digital inclusion and climate challenges. This opportunity is particularly relevant in regions where a significant portion of the population remains offline despite mobile internet coverage.
Globally, about 3 billion people, representing 38 percent of the population, live within mobile broadband coverage but do not use the internet. This gap is driven by challenges such as low digital literacy, limited access to relevant content, concerns about online safety, and inadequate infrastructure. In many underserved communities, unreliable electricity further limits the ability to charge devices and access digital services. In addition, the high cost of mobile devices remains one of the most critical barriers to connectivity.
In response to these challenges, the GSMA is offering grants and technical support to innovative enterprises working in key areas. One focus is on digital solutions that improve access to clean and reliable energy, especially in underserved communities. These solutions may include productive use energy technologies, smart metering systems, energy efficiency innovations, mini grid or mesh grid models, and other renewable energy approaches that enable greater participation in the digital economy.
Another priority area is solutions that promote device circularity and sustainability. This includes initiatives that extend the lifespan of mobile devices, improve affordability, reduce emissions across the value chain, and support responsible e waste collection, repair, and recycling systems.
The grant funding ranges from £100000 to £200000. Selected organizations will also receive technical assistance to strengthen their solutions and scale their impact.
