Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) Nigeria is recruiting qualified and experienced finance professionals for the position of Finance Manager.
PUI is an international humanitarian organisation providing assistance to vulnerable populations affected by conflict, displacement, natural disasters and economic crises. The organisation has been operating in Nigeria since 2016, initially establishing its presence in Borno State.

About the Role
The Finance Manager will work with the Area or Field Coordinator and Finance Coordinator to ensure effective financial management of the assigned base in accordance with PUI policies and procedures, donor requirements and applicable national and local regulations.
The successful candidate will provide financial leadership, supervise the base finance team, oversee accounting and budgeting processes, manage cash and financial archives, support audits and ensure strong financial controls.
Key Responsibilities
The Finance Manager will be responsible for supervising finance staff, supporting recruitment and onboarding, providing training, conducting performance appraisals, organising workloads and promoting a professional and collaborative working environment.
The role also involves overseeing financial and accounting tools, including accounting records, financial follow-up, budget monitoring, budget projections, cash forecasts and cash management.
The successful candidate will review financial transactions and documents, ensure compliance with PUI and donor requirements, monitor vendor payments and support payroll-related financial processes.
Budget Management
The Finance Manager will:
Monitor and analyse base-level budgets.
Identify budget variances, risks and corrective actions.
Support monthly budget monitoring meetings.
Coordinate expenditure forecasting with programme and support teams.
Update financial commitments based on approved purchase requests and purchase orders.
Monitor budget consumption and alert management to potential overspending or underspending.
Support budget revisions and amendments when required.
Verify appropriate allocation of expenses to projects, budget lines and cost centres.
Support grant closure processes and ensure financial commitments are accurately recorded.
Accounting and Cash Management
The successful candidate will oversee accounting records, financial archives, cashbooks, bank reconciliations and monthly accounting closures.
The role includes reviewing accounting entries, monitoring outstanding advances, ensuring supporting documents are complete and properly authorised, and serving as a finance focal point for internal and external audits.
The Finance Manager will also prepare cash forecasts, monitor cash flow and fund transfers, supervise cash counts and ensure that cash is securely managed.
Any discrepancies, losses or irregularities must be promptly reported and addressed in line with PUI procedures.
Archiving and Documentation
The Finance Manager will ensure that financial, accounting, payroll, banking, procurement and contractual documents are properly archived.
The role includes maintaining complete electronic financial archives, ensuring documents are properly authorised and accessible for audits, donor verifications and management reviews.
Team and Internal Communication
The Finance Manager will provide guidance and capacity building to finance staff and support effective collaboration between the Finance Department and other departments.
The position also involves participating in coordination meetings, providing financial updates and recommendations, escalating significant financial risks and organising regular finance team meetings.
Mandatory Requirements
Applicants should have:
A Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting, an MBA in Finance or a relevant professional qualification such as ICAN.
At least 5 years of experience in a similar finance management position, preferably within INGOs or NGOs.
Fluency in English.
Good knowledge of Hausa is an advantage.
Strong analytical, writing and financial management skills.
Good leadership and team-management capabilities.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
Experience preparing reports and contracts.
Knowledge of institutional donor procedures and financial guidelines, including ECHO and UN agencies.
Knowledge of humanitarian-sector operations and actors.
Strong communication, diplomacy and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing operational priorities.
