Peacebuilding is both a process and a collection of tools and skills that enhance the effectiveness and conflict sensitivity of work, projects, and objectives in conflict-affected areas. This course is designed to equip individuals living and working in such environments with an understanding of peacebuilding as both a goal and an ongoing process. Participants can earn a certificate of participation upon successful completion of the course.
Learning Objectives
- Explore global conflict trends over time and how they have shaped the field of peacebuilding.
- Define the core concepts of peacebuilding: peace, conflict, and violence.
- Recognize the importance of conflict sensitivity and inclusion as key elements of peacebuilding.
- Identify key peacebuilding priorities, actors, and methods.
Instructor-Led Format
USIP’s new instructor-led format combines a self-paced learning experience with weekly live, interactive webinars. Participants will join a global cohort of learners, engaging with a new lesson each week, featuring real-world case studies, skill-building exercises, and small group discussions. The four-week course is offered monthly, free of charge, and open to the public. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate of participation.

- Live Weekly Webinars: Each week, a USIP expert or guest speaker leads discussions on case studies, facilitated exercises, and small group activities.
- Global Group Learning: Learn alongside fellow participants from around the world, fostering a collaborative experience.
- Practical Case Studies: Gain hands-on skills through exercises and group discussions based on real-world examples.
- Certification: Participants will receive a certificate of participation upon completing the course.
