AFRICA PACHIPANDA CHALLENGE 2026
The Africa PachiPanda Challenge is a joint initiative by MTN and WWF designed to inspire, support and empower African innovators to develop practical solutions to pressing environmental and sustainability challenges across the continent.
The initiative focuses on using innovation, entrepreneurship and digital solutions to address environmental challenges while creating opportunities for young Africans and youth led businesses to contribute to a more sustainable future.
ABOUT THE AFRICA PACHIPANDA CHALLENGE
The Africa PachiPanda Challenge supports innovative solutions that contribute to environmental protection, climate resilience, sustainable development and the responsible use of natural resources.
The programme aligns with WWF’s global environmental goals and Africa Strategy, Making Nature Count. It also contributes to the Mobilising More for Climate programme by supporting innovative approaches to climate action and sustainability.
The initiative seeks to build a strong pipeline of innovative African green enterprises capable of addressing local environmental challenges while creating sustainable economic opportunities.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
The programme focuses on young people between 18 and 35 years, youth led small and medium sized enterprises, entrepreneurs, individuals and organisations working towards sustainable development in participating countries.
Employees and businesses operating in relevant sustainability sectors may also explore opportunities to participate where eligible.
AREAS OF INNOVATION
Participants are encouraged to develop innovative solutions that address environmental and sustainability challenges. These may include sustainable agriculture, climate innovation, conservation, responsible resource use, healthcare solutions, sustainable consumer products, digital innovation and other solutions that contribute to environmental protection and sustainable development.
WHY THE CHALLENGE MATTERS
Africa is facing increasing environmental pressures, including rising temperatures, climate change and declining natural resources. Young Africans are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change but also have the potential to become powerful agents of positive change.
The Africa PachiPanda Challenge aims to empower young innovators through entrepreneurship and a just transition while supporting solutions that can strengthen communities, create economic opportunities and improve environmental resilience.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The PachiPanda initiative began in 2022 as a partnership between MTN Zambia and WWF Zambia. Following its success in Zambia, the initiative expanded to Nigeria, South Africa and Cameroon in 2024, with Uganda joining in 2025.
In 2025, the programme received 3,436 applications and developed 158 finalists through its dedicated pitch programme, demonstrating the growing interest in youth led environmental innovation across Africa.
