📢 CALL FOR FREELANCERS – JIGAWA & SOKOTO

BBC Media Action is inviting applications from qualified and experienced freelancers for an upcoming research activity in Jigawa and Sokoto States, Nigeria.

The assignment will involve the pre-testing of a new radio programme and will require experienced field researchers who can support participant recruitment, qualitative research sessions, field supervision, and quality assurance.

The engagement is suitable for individuals with experience in research, fieldwork, qualitative data collection, recruitment, moderation, monitoring, or research quality control.

📍 AVAILABLE FREELANCE ROLES

1️⃣ RECRUITERS

Recruiters will be responsible for identifying and recruiting eligible participants for the research activity.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Using the approved screening tool to identify participants who meet the study criteria.
  • Recruiting participants according to the required study quotas.
  • Ensuring appropriate representation based on factors such as gender, age, location, and other research requirements.
  • Contacting, briefing, and confirming participants ahead of scheduled research sessions.
  • Maintaining accurate participant recruitment records and contact information.
  • Coordinating with moderators and QC supervisors to ensure participants attend scheduled sessions.
  • Communicating clearly with participants and responding to relevant logistical questions.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality and protecting participant information.
  • Ensuring that all recruitment activities comply with research and ethical requirements.

2️⃣ MODERATORS

Moderators will facilitate qualitative research sessions, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and In-Depth Interviews (IDIs).

Responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting FGDs and IDIs using the approved discussion guide.
  • Creating a respectful, comfortable, and inclusive environment for participants.
  • Encouraging participants to express their views openly.
  • Using effective probing techniques to obtain detailed and meaningful responses.
  • Keeping discussions focused on the objectives of the study.
  • Managing group dynamics and ensuring balanced participation.
  • Obtaining informed consent before research sessions.
  • Maintaining participant confidentiality throughout the assignment.
  • Taking accurate field notes and completing all required documentation.
  • Reporting relevant field observations and challenges to the project supervisor.

3️⃣ QC SUPERVISORS

Quality Control Supervisors will oversee field activities and ensure that research procedures and quality standards are followed.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising recruiters and moderators during fieldwork.
  • Verifying participant eligibility and recruitment quality.
  • Observing FGDs and IDIs to assess compliance with approved research protocols.
  • Reviewing field notes, recordings, screening forms, and other documentation.
  • Checking the completeness and accuracy of collected information.
  • Monitoring compliance with informed-consent and other ethical procedures.
  • Providing real-time guidance and feedback to field teams.
  • Identifying and resolving fieldwork challenges promptly.
  • Escalating significant issues to the project team.
  • Preparing and submitting quality-assurance reports and regular field updates.

📌 IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

Applicants with previous experience in qualitative research, market research, social research, media research, community engagement, FGDs, IDIs, participant recruitment, or field supervision are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should demonstrate strong communication, organisation, interpersonal, confidentiality, and attention-to-detail skills.

Knowledge of the local context and communities in Jigawa or Sokoto State will be an advantage.
