Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN) invites applications for the fifth edition of the FMN Prize for Innovation (PFI 5.0). The 2026 edition focuses on innovative practices in cassava production and processing, with the aim of advancing efficiency, sustainability, value addition and competitiveness across Nigeria’s cassava value chain.

About the Prize

The FMN Prize for Innovation is an initiative designed to stimulate transformative solutions in Nigeria’s food and agro-allied sector. The competition is structured into two categories to encourage participation from both enterprises and students.

Focus Area

Innovative practices in cassava production and processing, including:

• Productivity improvement and yield optimisation

• Efficient processing technologies

• Post-harvest loss reduction

• Sustainable and climate-smart practices

• Market expansion and value-chain enhancement

• Technological integration such as automation, digitisation and biotechnology

Entries will be assessed based on innovation, feasibility, scalability, sustainability and potential impact within Nigeria’s cassava ecosystem.

Categories and Eligibility

SME Category

Eligible applicants:

• Registered Nigerian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises

• Operating within the food and agro-allied sector

• Developing innovative solutions in cassava production, processing or value addition

Prizes:

• First prize: ₦5,000,000

• Second prize: ₦3,000,000

• Third prize: ₦2,000,000

Student Category

Eligible applicants:

• Nigerian undergraduate or postgraduate students

• Enrolled in recognised tertiary institutions

• Proposing innovative solutions to challenges in cassava production and processing

Prizes:

• First prize: ₦300,000

• Second prize: ₦200,000

• Third prize: ₦100,000
