🎯 Purpose of the Role

The News Reporter plays a critical role within the WANEP Alert and Response Mechanism (WARM) by ensuring the accurate, timely, and credible collection, verification, and reporting of data within the National Early Warning System (NEWS).

The role contributes directly to conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and accountability by transforming community-level information into actionable early warning alerts.

🧩 Key Responsibilities

📊 Data Collection & Verification

  • Gather information from community monitors and relevant sources
  • Verify reports to ensure credibility and eliminate misinformation
  • Maintain high standards of data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness

📝 Reporting & Analysis

  • Summarize incidents clearly for entry into NEWS databases
  • Support the development of periodic reports on peace, security, and governance
  • Assist in analyzing trends related to organized crime, violent extremism, and environmental security

🤝 Community Coordination

  • Engage and support community monitors for consistent reporting
  • Provide feedback and build capacity at the grassroots level
  • Strengthen accountability mechanisms within communities

💻 Digital Tools & Data Management

  • Utilize Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Access) effectively
  • Apply data cleaning, sorting, filtering, and validation techniques
  • Ensure confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data

✅ Requirements

🎓 Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or HND in:
    • International Relations
    • Political Science
    • Peace & Conflict Studies
    • Information Technology
    • Statistics or related fields

💼 Experience

  • 1–2 years of experience in data entry and verification
  • 1–3 years of experience within NGO/CSO environments
  • Knowledge of peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and early warning systems

🛠️ Skills & Competencies

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with data management systems and databases
  • Understanding of data quality assurance and validation
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
