Overview

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is looking for dynamic individuals to join their Futures Fellows program. As a Futures Fellow, you’ll support UNDP’s work in anticipating and addressing global challenges, helping create a more adaptive and agile organization.

This fellowship is part of UNDP’s broader Strategic Plan 2022-2025, focusing on innovation and foresight. You’ll engage in identifying trends, interpreting signals of change, and shaping strategies that contribute to UNDP’s long-term vision.

What You’ll Do:

Identify and Interpret Signals and Trends (25%):
Support and enhance UNDP’s Future Trends and Signals System (FTSS).
Conduct weekly scans to spot global trends and signals of change.
Lead insights and discussions in UNDP’s “Signals Studios.”
Integrate Foresight into UNDP’s Work (25%):
Work closely with teams to incorporate foresight into strategic planning.
Contribute to reports, workshops, and case studies on futures thinking.
Help train staff on foresight techniques.
Strengthen Futures Networks (20%):
Maintain and grow the UNDP Futures Portal.
Engage with external partners to energize UNDP’s Futures Network.
Bring New Ideas (15%):
Provide fresh, creative insights into futures methodologies.
Document the organization’s strategic foresight journey.
Support Strategic Planning (15%):
Conduct research to inform UNDP’s upcoming Strategic Plan (2026-2029).
Use foresight to identify future challenges and opportunities.

Who We’re Looking For:

Education: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within 3 years) from a Master’s program in social sciences (e.g., international relations, development studies).
Experience: At least one year of relevant work experience, ideally in futures, foresight, or strategic thinking.
Skills: Proactive, self-motivated, with strong data literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office. Experience with digital collaboration tools is also a plus.
Desired Skills: Marketing, graphic design, or strategic design experience, especially in science or innovation fields.
