Apply for the Klimadelegation ISLA COP29 program for Global South youth

To all the youth climate movement organizations and groups,

We are excited to announce the launch of the International Support for Local Activists (ISLA) COP29 Program. ISLA COP29 is carried out by Klimadelegation e.V. (KD) in cooperation with the Climate Diplomacy Action Programme (CDAP). CDAP is commissioned by the German Federal Foreign Office (FFO) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) through funds of the International Climate Initiative (IKI).

ISLA COP29 Program aims to support five youth climate groups from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, MENA, and the Pacific region with both financial and technical support. This includes funding their participation in the conferences and providing general and tailored capacity-building sessions to prepare them for the following events:

  • COY 19 (Nov 7th-9th) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
  • COP 29 (Nov 11th-22nd) in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Please note that we will not provide accreditation for selected group members to attend COP29. Please nominate individuals who have access to accreditation.

What are we looking for?

This opportunity is aimed at established youth groups with significant work at the local, national, or regional level, who have a clear plan for their participation at COP29. Our goal is to support the important work you are already doing, allowing you the freedom to pursue your own agenda and activities on the ground at COP29. While we will be available to offer support and guidance as needed, this program will not impose an extensive agenda during the conference.

Each group will nominate, in this application form, three to five individuals in a priority order, that if selected will receive the funding. The capacity building session will be open to all members of the selected organizations, but the funding for the conferences will only be given to two to three individuals per organization.

What criteria will be used to select the groups?

– Age of group members (18-30, flexible up to 35)
– Gender balance, with a focus on enhancing female and LGBTQI* participation
– Racial and ethnic diversity, with priority for marginalized groups. Indigenous youth groups are highly encouraged to apply
– Geographic balance, particularly representation from climate-affected areas
– The group’s background, work impact, and motivation for joining the project
