Your Role

We are seeking a motivated and passionate intern to join our Climate Diplomacy Action Programme (CDAP), which supports the Federal Foreign Office (AA) in advancing German climate foreign policy. This involves working with partner countries on various critical issues such as climate and energy partnerships, climate finance, climate and security, adaptation to climate change, and climate justice. The CDAP also plays a key role in advising the AA, fostering cooperation with international organizations, and implementing global climate foreign policy measures.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international climate diplomacy. You will work closely with a dedicated team of experts and professionals who are at the forefront of shaping global climate policy. The role provides a comprehensive understanding of the complexities and challenges involved in international climate negotiations and the implementation of climate-related initiatives. By contributing to the CDAP, you will play an integral part in driving forward Germany’s commitment to combating climate change on a global scale.

Key Responsibilities

As an intern in the CDAP, you will be entrusted with a variety of tasks that will provide you with a broad understanding of the workings of international climate diplomacy. Your responsibilities will be diverse and will require you to engage in multiple aspects of the programme.

Monitor and Analyze Developments in International Climate Protection: You will track and analyze developments in international climate protection efforts. This involves staying updated on climate policy debates, assessing the impacts of climate crises in specific regions, and understanding the responses of various stakeholders. Your analysis will support the programme’s strategic planning and decision-making processes.

Conduct Research on Key Climate Policy Issues: You will perform in-depth research on a wide range of topics, including climate protection, energy transitions, Just Transition, climate adaptation, climate resilience, and security. Your research will contribute to policy briefs, reports, and strategic documents that inform the AA’s climate diplomacy initiatives. You will also explore the intersections of climate policy with other global issues such as economic development, social justice, and international security.

Support Dialogue and Stakeholder Engagement: Effective climate diplomacy requires continuous dialogue and engagement with a variety of stakeholders. You will assist in organizing and following up on national and international dialogue formats, training sessions, and capacity-building measures. This includes coordinating with governmental and non-governmental organizations, international bodies, and academic institutions. Your role will involve logistical planning, communication, and ensuring that all stakeholders are effectively engaged.

Prepare Documentation and Communication Materials: You will help prepare essential documentation such as meeting briefs, comments, concept papers, status reports, and speaking points. These documents are crucial for internal and external communications, helping to articulate the programme’s objectives and achievements. Additionally, you will develop communication materials, including newsletters, presentations, and informational brochures, to disseminate key messages to various audiences.

Manage Information and Knowledge Resources: Effective knowledge management is critical for the success of the CDAP. You will handle data for monitoring and reporting purposes, ensuring that information is accurately recorded and easily accessible. You will also support the creation and maintenance of databases and information systems that facilitate the efficient sharing of knowledge within the programme and with external partners.

General Organizational Support: You will perform a variety of organizational tasks, including drafting meeting notes, summarizing conference proceedings, and supporting event logistics. These tasks are essential for the smooth operation of the programme and will provide you with valuable experience in project management and administrative support.
