Growing Roots Grant 2026 — Call for Applications

The Growing Roots Grant offers funding and mentorship to new and emerging youth‑led initiatives working to improve the lives of communities on the frontlines of climate change.

Key information

– Grant amount: Up to USD 10,000 per group. 

– Accompaniment: Ongoing mentorship provided to grantees. 

– Number of awards: 8–10 grassroots youth‑led initiatives will be selected. 

– Eligibility: New and emerging projects (no older than one year). Applications are welcome from initiatives based in the Global South (Middle East & North Africa, Sub‑Saharan Africa, South Asia, South‑East Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific). Diaspora and BIPOC groups located in Global North countries are also encouraged to apply.

Priority focus areas

– Strategic dialogue and narrative building: Projects that create spaces for dialogue, counter misinformation, strengthen community relationships, and shift narratives to support local organising. 

– Advocacy initiatives: Projects aiming to influence public policy, local/municipal rules, or civic engagement through advocacy, research or mobilisation. 

– Community autonomy: Projects that build community‑owned infrastructure, systems or resources to strengthen long‑term local power and resilience.

Application window

– Open: 8 February 2026 

– Closes: 28 February 2026 (final day to apply)

Notes

– Only projects meeting the “new/emerging” criterion (≤ 1 year) will be considered. 

– Applicants should clearly describe intended impact, community participation, sustainability and how the grant will be used.
