Decision Announcement: By 1 February 2027

About the Grant

The Climate Intervention Environmental Impact Fund (CIEIF) invites applications from eligible applicants seeking funding to support environmental impact assessment, predictive impact modelling, and stakeholder engagement for proposed climate intervention field tests.

The grant aims to support responsible climate intervention research by helping applicants assess potential environmental, economic, social, public health, and safety impacts before and during field testing.

Priority Areas

Proposals must focus on at least one of the following areas:

  1. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
  2. Predictive impact modelling.
  3. Engagement with potentially affected stakeholders, including local communities and government agencies.

Applications that do not address at least one of these areas will be rejected.

Grant Amount and Budget

Selected applicants will receive $75,000 to support eligible project activities. The proposed budget may cover applicant and consultant time devoted to environmental impact assessment and related work, predictive modelling, stakeholder engagement, and closely associated expenses.

The first third of the grant will be paid upfront after project scoping discussions are completed. The remaining payments will follow an agreed schedule based on project milestones.

Application Requirements

There is no standard application form or template. Applicants must submit a concise grant request of no more than 20 single-spaced pages, using 12-point font, written in English.

The application must address the following ten areas:

  1. Contact details and biosketches of all project personnel, including their positions, the nature of the applying organisation, and its website.
  2. A detailed description of the proposed field test, supporting research, technology readiness, proposed location, anticipated technical challenges, and potential environmental, economic, social, public health, and safety impacts.
  3. Required government permits and approvals at all relevant levels.
  4. Previous publications on the feasibility of the technology and its potential for climate-relevant scale-up.
  5. At least two independent consulting firms that could support impact assessment, modelling, or other relevant project needs.
  6. A proposed budget explaining how the $75,000 grant will be spent.
  7. All other funding sources supporting the investigation.
  8. Information about insurance coverage for the proposed field test.
  9. Confirmation of willingness to publish the field-test results.
  10. Any additional important information about the proposed project.

Supplementary biosketches and relevant scientific publications may be attached separately. Applicants are encouraged to provide links to supporting materials where possible.
