ABOUT THE ROLE
The Program Coordinator will lead the effective coordination and implementation of a community-led GBV prevention initiative across Bokkos and Jos East LGAs in Plateau State.
The role will provide strategic and operational oversight of stakeholder engagement, community dialogues, implementation of the Community-led GBV Prevention Framework and the work of GBV champions.
The Program Coordinator will also ensure that implementation is inclusive, conflict-sensitive, safeguarding-compliant and aligned with donor and WfWI requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- PROGRAM PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION
Develop and implement comprehensive work plans for programme delivery across Bokkos and Jos East LGAs.
Coordinate programme activities in line with approved plans, timelines, budgets and donor requirements.
Coordinate implementation of the Community-led GBV Prevention Framework, including community dialogue, feedback integration, dissemination and implementation.
Work closely with Paramount Rulers, Traditional Ruling Council leaders, community representatives, women leaders, GBV champions, CBOs and other stakeholders.
- STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT AND COMMUNITY MOBILISATION
Map and maintain an updated stakeholder directory covering communities, villages, wards, districts, organizations, associations, churches, mosques and other relevant structures.
Develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans.
Coordinate inception meetings, community dialogues and engagements with traditional leaders, women leaders, GBV champions, CBOs and women’s associations.
Organize preparatory sessions with women leaders ahead of the TRC Leaders’ Dialogue.
- COMMUNITY-LED GBV PREVENTION
Support traditional and community leaders to strengthen community-led approaches to GBV prevention.
Supervise and provide technical support to GBV champions.
Support GBV prevention messaging, safe spaces, reporting and referral pathways and community action.
Coordinate high-level roundtables involving Paramount Rulers, TRC leaders, women leaders, government actors and community representatives.
- CONSULTANT AND PARTNERSHIP MANAGEMENT
Establish effective working relationships with the GBV consultant and project partners.
Coordinate and provide oversight to the consultant developing the GBV Prevention Framework.
Ensure community perspectives and stakeholder feedback are incorporated into the framework.
Coordinate with WfWI programme, MERL, finance, logistics and administration teams.
- MONITORING, DOCUMENTATION AND LEARNING
Monitor programme activities and stakeholder engagements across the two LGAs.
Identify emerging risks and support timely corrective action.
Maintain accurate attendance records, photographs, meeting minutes, stakeholder feedback and other programme evidence.
Document lessons learned, good practices, challenges and community-level changes.
Prepare timely programme reports using donor-approved templates.
- BUDGET AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Manage the Ford Program budget and spending plan in accordance with approved budgets and WfWI financial policies.
Monitor programme expenditure and identify budget variances.
Ensure activities remain within approved financial and operational parameters.
- TEAM SUPERVISION
Supervise, coach and support GBV Champions and other programme personnel.
Set clear expectations and monitor performance.
Promote teamwork, accountability and adherence to safeguarding and operational standards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Gender Studies, Community Development, International Development or a related field.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in programme coordination, project management or a similar role, preferably within an NGO or international NGO.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating community-based programmes, particularly in GBV prevention, women’s rights, gender equality, social services or community development.
- Strong commitment to preventing and responding to violence against women and girls and promoting gender equality.
- Experience working with traditional institutions, community leadership structures or faith-based organizations.
- Experience developing or implementing GBV prevention frameworks, community action plans or social norms change initiatives.
- Knowledge of Nigerian legal and policy frameworks relating to GBV, women’s rights, safeguarding and protection.
- Experience working in conflict-affected or fragile communities.
- Strong understanding of gender issues, GBV, traditional gender roles, social norms and power dynamics.
- Experience engaging men, traditional leaders and community structures in GBV prevention, community mobilisation or social and behavioural change initiatives.
- Strong participatory, gender-sensitive, inclusive and community-led programming skills.
- Proven ability to develop work plans, coordinate activities, manage budgets, monitor implementation and deliver results within deadlines.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation, negotiation and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to lead, supervise, coach and motivate teams, consultants and community structures.
- Experience managing consultants and implementing partners.
- Strong report writing, documentation, analytical and communication skills.
- Excellent English communication skills and oral fluency in Hausa.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Strong problem-solving, coordination, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently and collaboratively.
- Cultural sensitivity and adaptability when working with diverse communities.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, conflict-sensitive programming, ethical community engagement and protection principles.
