ABOUT THE TRAINING
Amani Africa Media and Research Services is a pan-African international policy research, training and consulting think-do-tank specializing in multilateral processes of concern and interest to Africa, with a particular focus on the African Union.
Launched in 2019, the Amani Africa Training Institute on the AU provides participants with an up-to-date and practical understanding of the formal and informal processes that shape policymaking and action within the African Union.
The 2026 training will provide deeper insights into AU institutions, decision-making dynamics, regional integration, peace and security, democratic governance and Africa’s role in the global arena.
Participants will also gain practical knowledge of how the AU operates and how to effectively plan and engage with AU institutions and processes for maximum impact.
TRAINING OBJECTIVES
Participants will gain:
- In-depth knowledge of AU structures, decision-making processes and institutional dynamics.
- Insight into factors shaping current trends in policy development, institutional reforms and the AU’s role across its mandate.
- Practical understanding of the roles of key AU actors, including the AU Commission, AU organs and Member States.
- Greater understanding of the AU governance, peace and security agenda.
- Practical engagement strategies for CSOs seeking to interact effectively with AU policies and processes.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
Applications are open to:
- Staff of the African Union, Regional Economic Communities, Regional Mechanisms, international organizations and states.
- Staff of Directorates General of Ministries of Foreign Affairs focusing on Africa and the AU.
- Diplomats accredited to the African Union.
- Media professionals covering African Union affairs.
- Representatives of Africa-based civil society organizations working on AU matters, particularly youth-led and women-led organizations.
- Researchers interested in the mandate, processes and work of the African Union.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should submit:
- A one-page cover letter explaining how the training is relevant to their work.
- A two-page resume containing contact information and details of two referees.
