ZOA: Disaster Preparedness Specialist (Sokoto, Nigeria)

ZOA, an international relief and recovery organization, is seeking a Disaster Preparedness Specialist to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience in vulnerable communities across Borno and Sokoto states, Nigeria.

Location: Sokoto, Nigeria

Experience: 5 years

Job Summary:

The Disaster Preparedness Specialist will provide technical support and strategic guidance to the project team and consortium members in delivering disaster preparedness initiatives. This role requires close collaboration with government agencies, local authorities, and community stakeholders to build disaster resilience, implement risk reduction strategies, and promote sustainable preparedness measures.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

•  Develop and implement emergency response protocols and procedures.

•  Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments.

•  Conduct disaster preparedness capacity assessments.

•  Facilitate workshops and train consortium partners and community-level teams.

•  Build the capacity of government officials on risk analysis and preparedness.

•  Train Community Preparedness and Response Teams (CPRTs).

•  Facilitate simulation exercises.

•  Lead the development of communication and awareness-raising protocols.

•  Facilitate contingency planning workshops.

•  Conduct climate-induced conflict analysis where needed.

•  Support the positioning of rapid response Non-Food Items (NFIs) and enhance logistics preparedness.

•  Support rapid multi-sectoral needs assessments.

•  Facilitate the activation of crisis modifiers.

•  Coordinate and lead emergency response and recovery efforts.

•  Ensure compliance with emergency management requirements.

•  Establish and maintain relationships with relevant agencies.

•  Review and revise emergency management plans regularly.

•  Analyze post-disaster data and generate reports.

•  Conduct post-response reflection reviews.

•  Ensure the mainstreaming of protection, gender, disability inclusion, and conflict sensitivity.

•  Engage community leaders and marginalized groups.

•  Actively participate in relevant meetings and platforms.
