Job Title: Nutrition Coordinator
Sector: Nutrition
Duration: 6 months
Duty Station: Adamawa and Borno State (One per State)
Reports to: Executive Director

Purpose of Assignment:
The Nutrition Coordinator provides strategic and technical leadership for the design, implementation, and monitoring of all nutrition programs. They ensure that interventions are evidence-based, contextually relevant, aligned with national guidelines, and integrated with broader health and humanitarian objectives.
Core Purpose:
To coordinate, oversee, and ensure the effective implementation of nutrition interventions aimed at preventing and treating malnutrition, improving dietary practices, and strengthening local capacity to respond to nutrition emergencies.
Major duties and responsibilities:
1. Program Planning & Technical Leadership
• Lead the design and planning of nutrition programs in line with national and international standards (CMAM, IYCF, IMAM, MIYCN).
• Develop and update the nutrition strategy for the organization’s humanitarian and development response.
• Conduct nutrition assessments and surveys (SMART, KAP, Rapid Assessments) to inform program design.
• Ensure strong integration of nutrition with health, WASH, and food security programs.
• Provide technical guidance to field teams to ensure quality and consistency across all nutrition sites.
2. Program Implementation & Quality Assurance
• Supervise implementation of Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), and Micronutrient Supplementation programs.
• Ensure timely delivery of program inputs (RUTF, therapeutic milk, anthropometric tools, etc.).
• Monitor program coverage, admission/discharge trends, cure rates, and mortality indicators to maintain SPHERE standards.
• Strengthen linkages between Outpatient Therapeutic Programs (OTP), Stabilization Centers (SC), and community outreach.
• Support health and nutrition staff to follow treatment protocols, case management, and counselling standards.
3. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL)
• Work closely with MEAL teams to establish robust monitoring frameworks for nutrition activities.
• Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting for nutrition indicators (admissions, performance rates, MUAC screening coverage, etc.).
• Ensure accountability to affected populations through community feedback and participation mechanisms.
• Document lessons learned, success stories, and case studies for program improvement and donor visibility.
• Support operational research and nutrition surveillance activities.
4. Capacity Building & Supervision
• Build the capacity of nutrition staff, community volunteers, and local health partners through mentorship and training.
• Organize periodic refresher trainings on CMAM, IYCF, and Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE).
• Supervise field teams through supportive supervision visits and on-the-job coaching.
• Foster an environment of learning, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
5. Coordination, Representation & Advocacy
• Represent the organization at the Nutrition Sector Working Group, Health Cluster, and Food Security Cluster.
• Liaise with State Ministries of Health, NPHCDA, UNICEF, WFP, and other partners to harmonize approaches.
• Support advocacy efforts for nutrition funding, policy implementation, and government engagement.
• Strengthen partnerships with local NGOs, community structures, and other stakeholders.
6. Supply Chain & Resource Management
• Ensure timely quantification and request for nutrition commodities (RUTF, anthropometric tools, MUAC tapes).
• Work with logistics and procurement teams to maintain a steady supply pipeline.
• Monitor stock levels, consumption rates, and prevent stock-outs or expiries.
• Ensure proper documentation and accountability for nutrition supplies.
7. Financial & Donor Management
• Contribute to proposal writing and budget development for nutrition components.
• Monitor budget utilization and support corrective actions where necessary.
• Ensure donor compliance and timely submission of quality reports (narrative and financial).
• Support audits, evaluations, and donor visits to project sites.
8. Emergency Preparedness & Response
• Lead nutrition emergency response assessments and rapid interventions during crisis outbreaks (displacement, floods, cholera, etc.).
• Develop contingency plans for nutrition response during sudden-onset emergencies.
• Ensure coordination with emergency health, WASH, and food security teams.

QUALIFICATION and COMPETENCIES(indicates the level of proficiency required for the job
EDUCATION & OTHER SKILL: MBBS, Nutrition, Food Science, MPH or other relevant disciplines.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Five years of professional work experience in planning, programming, implementation monitoring and evaluation of Nutrition project/program. Professional work experience in a project/program management function or a technical expert capacity in health or Nutrition care.
• Field work experience.
• Strong technical understanding of CMAM, IYCF, IMAM, MIYCN, and micronutrient interventions.
• Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
• Competence in data analysis, nutrition surveillance, and report writing.
• Proficiency in MS Office and data analysis tools (Excel, DHIS2, Kobo, ODK).
• Proven capabilities in leadership required
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: Fluency in English and local working language of the duty station will be an asset.
