Stears Open Data is a small African non-profit team based in Lagos, Nigeria. Our mission is to enable leaders and citizens to understand and plan for Africa’s growth by producing data about Africa’s urbanisation, public goods, and governance and publishing it for free. Stears Open Data is the social impact arm of Stears, a financial data and research provider for global funds and corporations investing in Africa. We are about to launch Stears Open Data as its own brand with its own social media presence to increase awareness and excitement about our work.

JOB SUMMARY AND SCOPE OF WORK
We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Social Media Content Creator to manage and grow our social media presence while building an audience that is excited about our work. The ideal candidate will combine their skills in copywriting, graphic design, and basic motion design to transform statistics, data, charts, and product features into innovative, engaging content. We need someone who will take all our statistics, data, charts, and product features and transform them into beautiful, engaging posts.
We have two big marketing campaigns that will run from Jan 27 to Mar 20. The first campaign is a soft launch of our brand, introducing our mission and the range of our work. The second campaign is focused on a project to map all the ferry routes in Lagos, Nigeria. This contract is for producing all the content needed for those campaigns and handling all day-to-day social media management, including posting and scheduling content across platforms to ensure a consistent and compelling online presence.
Content Creation for Two Campaigns
Draft clear, engaging, and informative copy tailored to various social media platforms.
Use graphic design tools to create visually appealing posts, infographics, and other visual content.
Design short animations and videos that make data and statistics more engaging and shareable.
Ensure the content aligns with Stears’ brand standards and professional reputation.
Social Media Management
Develop and implement a content calendar aligned with organisational goals and campaigns.
Schedule and post content using industry-standard tools such as Hootsuite, Buffer, or similar platforms.
Monitor engagement and respond to comments and messages in a timely and professional manner.
Performance Tracking
Analyse social media metrics to assess content performance and optimize future posts.
Prepare regular reports on social media growth, engagement, and other key performance indicators.
Collaboration
Work closely with the Open Data team to align content with the organisation’s mission and messaging.
Stay updated on social media trends and best practices to ensure content remains innovative and relevant.
Additional Expectations
Participate in a daily check-in meeting for at least the first week of the engagement.
Respond to questions and messages within 24 hours during the workweek.
QUALIFICATIONS
Proven experience in social media content creation and management.
A strong portfolio showcasing your ability to create engaging social media content, including posts, animations, and videos.
Proficiency in graphic design and video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar).
Experience with social media scheduling and analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer, or Sprout Social).
Strong understanding of social media platforms and best practices for content creation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to transform complex data into visually appealing and digestible content.
Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of motion design and animation tools (e.g., After Effects or similar).
Experience working with nonprofits or mission-driven organisations.
Familiarity with or interest in African sustainability and urbanisation topics.
