Safeguarding and Impact Officer Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safeguarding and Impact Officer to join our team. This dual-focused role is critical to ensuring the safety and well-being of all our participants in our program, while also demonstrating and measuring the positive change we create. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing all safeguarding policies and procedures, as well as designing and executing our impact measurement frameworks. This role requires a strong commitment to ethical practice, protecting our participants from harm, excellent analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of both safeguarding best practices and robust impact evaluation methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
I. Safeguarding Responsibilities (Approx. 60%):
● Policy and Procedure Development: Review, and update the organization’s safeguarding policies and procedures in line with national legislation, international best practice, and donor requirements. Ensure policies are accessible and understood by all stakeholders.
● Spot checks at TAFTA Activities: Work with the Gender Inclusion and Safeguarding Lead to conduct spot checks at different locations where our activities are being conducted. Attend physical trainings and activities that our program offers for our participants.
● Training and Awareness: Assist to design and deliver comprehensive safeguarding training and awareness sessions to all staff, volunteers, partners, and relevant stakeholders. Foster a culture of vigilance, respect, and proactive safeguarding throughout the organization.
● Case Management and Response: Report all safeguarding concerns, disclosures, and incidents to the Gender Inclusion and Safeguarding Lead. Manage and report all safeguarding incidents in a timely, sensitive, and appropriate manner, ensuring all concerns are properly reported, recorded, and investigated according to established protocols and legal requirements.
● Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct regular safeguarding risk assessments across all TAFTA activities and partnerships. Identify potential risks and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure the safety of participants and staff.
● Compliance and Reporting: Ensure the organization complies with all relevant national and international safeguarding legislation, donor requirements, and reporting obligations. Maintain accurate, confidential, and detailed records of all safeguarding concerns, actions taken, and outcomes. Prepare confidential reports for senior management and relevant external bodies as required.
● Confidentiality and Data Protection: Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and data protection in all safeguarding matters, adhering to data privacy regulations.
II. Impact Measurement and Evaluation Responsibilities (Approx. 40%):
● Impact Framework Development: Work with the Gender Inclusion and Safeguarding Lead to design, develop, and implement the organization’s impact measurement framework, including theories of change, logical frameworks, indicators, and data collection methodologies tailored to our Safeguarding lens.
● Data Collection and Management: Support in the collection of qualitative and quantitative data to measure program Safeguarding outcomes and impact.
● Analysis and Reporting: Analyze collected data to assess program’s Safeguarding effectiveness through identifying trends, and measure impact against set indicators. Prepare clear, concise, and compelling impact reports, case studies, and presentations for internal use, donors, and external stakeholders.
● Learning and Adaptation: Assist the Gender Inclusion and Safeguarding Lead in facilitating organizational learning by regularly sharing impact findings with program teams and senior management. Support the use of data to inform program design, adaptation, and continuous improvement.
● Tool Development: Develop and refine data collection tools, templates, and guidelines to ensure consistency and quality in impact monitoring and evaluation efforts.
● Capacity Building: Assist in providing training and support to program staff on basic data collection, monitoring, and reporting techniques to strengthen internal capacity for impact measurement.
Qualifications:
● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, International Development, Psychology, Statistics, Monitoring & Evaluation, or a related field. A Master’s degree or specialized certification in Safeguarding, Child Protection, M&E, or Project Management is highly desirable.
● Experience:
○ Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in safeguarding/child protection, with a demonstrable track record of managing safeguarding cases.
○ Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), impact measurement, or research, preferably within a non-profit or development context.
● Knowledge:
○ In-depth knowledge of national and international safeguarding legislation, child protection policies, and best practices in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
○ Strong understanding of M&E principles, methodologies (quantitative and qualitative), data analysis, and reporting.
○ Familiarity with ethical considerations in research and data collection, particularly when working with vulnerable populations.
● Skills:
○ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
○ Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, with proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, R, or similar).
○ Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, empathy, and professionalism.
○ Proven ability to conduct investigations, facilitate training, and write comprehensive reports.
○ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
○ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
