Main Purpose

  • Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MS values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action.

Job Description

  • Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anesthetist, whenever required or needed, to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
  • Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her domain of intervention.
  • Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
  • Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.) in his or her department, to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project medical referent.
  • Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, referral notes, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, punto info, food for patients, line lists etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
  • Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.

MSF Section / Context-Specific Accountabilities

  • Defines, organizes, implements and follows up all quality nursing care related activities.
  • Ensures a proper daily management of the medical human resources under his/her supervision.
  • Implements correct nursing and infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols to warrant efficiency, quality, and continuity of prescribed care.
  • Ensures that all nursing activities throughout the services are carried out safely as per MSF nursing standards and protocols.
  • Actively participate in detection of gaps and capacity building of staff under his/her supervision,
  • Ensure the implementation of the treatment plan and training of all nurses on its utility and usage to rationalise medications and avoid waste.
  • Ensure data management or patient’s data are treated with safety and confidentiality.
  • Responsible for primary data source management and use of the data tool during data collection and assisting medical staff with on-spot-training, to enable production of quality of data encoded in different MSF tools (HMIS, …).
  • Ensure that nurses participate in the rounds of the doctors’ and that changes in patient examinations and treatments are taken into consideration.
  • Establishment handover plan for patients and medical equipment’s between the teams of the day, morning, and evening.
  • Ensuring that medical equipment is well maintained and properly used by the nursing staff.
  • Ensuring that a rigorous monitoring system is implemented for each patient based on their condition.
  • Ensuring that the medication consumption tools in the departments are well documented, up-to-date, and properly maintained.
  • Ensuring that good communication exists between caregivers and patients, and that the concept of human care is known and practiced by all.

Other(s):

  • Participate in maintaining a conducive working environment with MSF staff members and MoH colleagues and staffs from other actors operating in the project intervention.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn through, the use of the various training platforms (TEMBO, …), and other existing approaches made available (“on spot training”, telemedicine, simulation …) by MSF, ….
  • Participate in the analysis of medical order (e.g. medical stationary) to ensure rationale use and anticipate any potential rupture.

Requirements

  • Education: Essential Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, registered with Nurse Council and having valid practice license. Training in Public Health will be an asset
  • Experience: Essential two (2) years working experience with MSF or other INGOs a Nursing Team Supervisor.
  • Language: English and Hausa (Written and spoken). Ability to communicate in local languages spoken Borno state would be an asset
  • Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (word, excel, Power point, internet).
  • Competencies: Commitment to MSF Principles, Behavioural Flexibility, Stress Management, Results and Quality Orientation, Teamwork and Cooperation, Service Orientation.

Remuneration
As per MSF salary scale (National contract).
