The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are pleased to announce the Empowering the Teachers (ETT) Fellowship, offered by the MIT Center for International Studies (CIS).

This teaching-focused fellowship provides Nigerian faculty in science and engineering disciplines with a unique opportunity to spend a semester at MIT. Selected fellows will observe instruction, collaborate with MIT faculty, and develop innovative curricula and teaching approaches for implementation at their home universities in Nigeria.

Objective:

The NNPC Ltd/TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited’s objective is to contribute to the socio-economic development of Nigeria by enabling the provision of quality education through partnership with reputable local and international academic institutions.

Eligibility:

  Interested in developing new curriculum and teaching methods and consider themselves to be change-agents.

  A faculty member holding a PhD and teaching in a department corresponding to Computer or Environmental Science, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer or Petroleum Engineering or Geophysics, at a university in Nigeria.

  Lecturer One or Two rank at the time of applying.

  Must have completed their PhD as at the time of applying.

  Firmly committed to returning to their home university in Nigeria at the conclusion of the fellowship, and remain there for not less than three (3) years thereafter.

Benefits:

ETT will cover basic travel, living, and instructional materials expenses. Home universities must commit to providing paid leave of absence during the program.

Selection Process:

  Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a physical interview in Lagos by end of July 2025 with representatives from NNPC Limited, TotalEnergies, and MIT faculty.

  TotalEnergies reserves the right to modify or change the schedule and selection process.
