Main Objective of the Position
The primary objective of the Laboratory Supervisor role is to effectively plan coordinate and oversee all laboratory activities and personnel in accordance with established MSF protocols and procedures The role supports the provision of accurate diagnostic services which are essential for quality medical care and effective treatment within the project
Key Responsibilities
The Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for the following tasks and duties
•Participate actively in the planning of laboratory activities and contribute to the development of project budgets related to laboratory operations
•Ensure that hygiene safety and bio risk protocols are strictly followed by all laboratory staff to prevent contamination and ensure safe working conditions
•Perform a variety of laboratory tests including but not limited to serology hematology biochemistry bacteriology and parasitology as required by the medical team
•Oversee the proper use maintenance and cleaning of all laboratory equipment and ensure that an adequate stock of necessary supplies and reagents is maintained to prevent shortages
•Ensure proper cold chain management for the storage and transportation of sensitive reagents and biological samples
•Supervise guide and support the continuous development and training of laboratory personnel in collaboration with the Human Resources department
•Utilize laboratory management software such as EpyTryp and coordinate the dispatch of samples to external laboratories for quality assurance and confirmatory testing
•Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports on laboratory results equipment status and staff performance to the relevant medical and administrative teams
Required Qualifications and Skills
Educational Requirements
•A recognized degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited institution
Work Experience
•A minimum of two to four years of professional experience in a laboratory setting
•At least one year of relevant work experience in a humanitarian or non governmental organization is required
Language Proficiency
•Fluency in both written and spoken English
•Proficiency in Hausa is essential for effective communication within the project context
Technical Competencies
•Basic knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications including Word Excel and Outlook
•Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities
•Capacity to work efficiently in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments
