Master’s Position in Materials Science at Northern Illinois University

Master’s Position in Materials Science and Engineering

Applications are invited for a master’s position within a joint collaboration between the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Northern Illinois University and the Applied Materials Division at Argonne National Laboratory.

The selected candidates will engage in hands-on experimental work on Nanocomposite Materials and Membrane Manufacturing at Argonne National Laboratory. The research focuses on fabrication of membrane structures by various techniques including electrospraying and electrospinning, characterization, and application as membranes for filtration and waste material management. We are seeking applications from individuals with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, materials engineering or mechanical engineering. The position is a 12-month (full-time) appointment (with a minimum 20 hrs/week of experimental work at Argonne), with a renewal possible for a maximum of two years. ✅ Requirements:
– Bachelor’s degree in the field of materials science, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely related field
– Knowledge in material (mainly polymer) synthesis and characterization
Students with prior research experience are highly encouraged to apply

– Conduct experimental research and data analysis under supervision and mentorship of the advisors
– Publish research findings in scientific journals
– Completing the coursework at NIU with minimum GPA of 3.2
