Join Save the Children as PSS Facilitator in Katsina

Background of the Activity 

SC is implementing child protection interventions through case management services to vulnerable children including unaccompanied and separated children, those directly affected by the conflict, child-headed households (CHH), and other vulnerable children exposed to abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence Psycho-social support (PSS) will be integrated through the operation of child-friendly spaces. Furthermore, SC will implement community-based child protection programming that aims to reduce protection risks through strengthening local knowledge and access to information around child protection issues and facilitating the safe identification and referral of vulnerable children. SC will SC will provide age-appropriate PSS to children (girls and boys) affected by the armed conflict, insecurity and displacement (UASC, CHH, GBV Survivors, and Other Vulnerable Children) in the North-West, Nigeria. SC will provide timely and quality coaching and mentoring on PSS using the IASC coaching and mentoring tool to PSS facilitators providing psychosocial support

PSS Facilitator Responsibilities/ task 

• To develop activities with objectives that are varied and suitable to children’s needs and age.

• To identify the children who need special care and to discuss it with the facilitator. 

• To be responsible for children’s well-being

• Facilitate and manage both small and big groups

• To ensure that children participate in making decisions regarding the activities.

• To solve problems between children (conflict resolution) in a positive and effective way

• To use positive discipline without the use of verbal or physical violence.

• Not to discuss a child’s problem in front of the child or front of the other children.

• Feedback to the parents of the child and engage them in activities and problem-solving.

• Identification and referral of vulnerable children (unaccompanied/separated and children at risk), then refer to case worker.

• Conduct community sensitization and mobilization about child protection.

• Ensure community leaders are briefed about the program and expectations

• Work with community leaders to establish communities in collaboration with Community leadership.

• Follow up with children under temporary care arrangements and foster care.

• Work closely with the case worker and safe families’ facilitators, to ensure the effective identification of vulnerable during the child-friendly spaces activities.

• Participate in monthly meetings with the CPC committee at the community level.

• Participate in safe families monthly meeting

• Report cases/situations beyond your resolution to Save the Children Child Protection Team or Focal Point.

• Perform any other duties agreed with Save the Children Education team.

• Ensure adherence to work hours by filling out the attendance register and monthly timesheet.  

Minimum qualifications/requirements: 

• Minimum of Bachelors (BSc) degree, HND, National Diploma, NCE in Public health, arts, social sciences, social administration, community development etc. or any related studies. 

• Minimum of one year with previous experience

• Fluent in English and working knowledge of local languages in implementing communities such as Hausa and Fulani. 

• The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible 

• The capacity and willingness to be trained and learn. 

• Commitment to the aims and principles of SC. In particular a good understanding of the SC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support. 

• Excellent communication and strong influencing skills
