TITLE: Media and Communications Coordinator

CONTRACT LENGTH: Full Time/Regular

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
 
Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:
The Communication Coordinator will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of all communication and visibility activities related to the ROOSC project. The role will ensure strategic alignment with donor requirements, organisational branding, and advocacy goals. The coordinator will manage content creation, media engagement, social media content, and production of communication materials to support project milestones from launch to closure.

SCOPE OF ROLE: 
 
Reports to: ROOSC Project Director
 
Closely Works With: Advocacy & Community Engagement Coordinator

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
1. Strategic Communication Planning

  • Lead the implementation and periodic review of the project’s communication and visibility plan.
  • Align communication activities with advocacy themes and donor branding guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the media and comms team, project team members and partners to ensure timely execution of communication deliverables.

2. Project Milestone Communication

  • Events: Develop press release, coordinate high-level events, and social media content.
  • Implementation Phase: Deliver bi-monthly social media content, press releases, press conferences, and media trips.
  • Project Closure: Lead on final joint press release and social media wrap-up campaign.

3. Project Content Development and Storytelling

  • Lead the production of human-interest stories, testimonials, blogs, vlogs, and short videos for the ROOSC project.
  • Coordinate field visits for content gathering, ensuring ethical storytelling and consent protocols for the ROOSC project.
  • Manage production of projects printed and branded materials (factsheets, brochures, banners, diaries, etc.).

4. Media and Public Engagement

  • Organise community-level radio/TV programs and interactive events.
  • Coordinate participation in fairs, exhibitions, and national/state/community functions.
  • Support high-level visits and back-to-school campaigns with communication coverage.

5. Digital and Social Media Management

  • Develop and implement a social media strategy tailored to project phases.
  • Ensure regular updates on SCI and partner platforms.
  • Create toolkits and tweet sheets for key events and international days.
  • Draft success stories and case studies.

6. Internal and Donor Communication

  • Provide updates for internal newsletters and donor reports.
  • Coordinate with Save the Children’s country office communication teams for alignment.

7. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning

  • Track and report on communication outputs and engagement metrics.
  • Evaluate the impact of communication activities and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain a repository of project images, videos, and media coverage.

8. Visual Content Creation (Photography & Videography)

  • Capture clear, well-composed photos and short videos during project activities, field visits, and events.
  • Record short testimonial clips and success story highlights from beneficiaries, partners, and project staff.
  • Capture and Production of social media, ready visuals

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency in social media management and content creation tools.
  • Experience with media engagement and event coordination.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with donor-funded projects.
  • Ability to take quality pictures and videos.
  • Fluency in Hausa or other local languages is an asset.
  • Graphic design and video editing skills are not compulsory but are considered an asset.
