The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a global service

inclusive growth and sustainable development on the African continent in line with the AU’s
Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want. With more than 200 staff, GIZ African Union cooperates
with the AU Commission, as well as the AU’s specialised institutions and agencies, such as the
Development Agency AUDA-NEPAD, at continental, regional and national level in more than 35
member states. Key areas of engagement include Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, Gov-
ernance, Sustainable Economic Growth, Just Transition as well as Health and Social Develop-
ment.
GET.transform is a European multi-donor program focused on supporting energy and power
system transformations in emerging economies. The mission is to provide comprehensive pro-
ject manager services in areas like long-term energy planning, renewable energy grid integra-
tion, energy policy, regulation, and market development.
We are currently seeking an experienced project manager for our Africa regional activities.
Based in Addis Ababa, this role involves project management, energy planning towards enhanc-
ing electricity supply security, expanding access, and supporting the implementation of the GIZ
regional programme “Accelerating the Energy Transition in Africa”.
Identify and address planning, regulatory and market development support needs by collaborating with the African Union Commission (AUC), African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), Power pools (e. g Southern Africa Power Pool- SAPP and Eastern Africa Power Pool-EAPP), regional energy regulatory agencies and associations (e.g. Independent regulatory board (IRB) of the Eastern Africa electricity market, Regional Electricity Regulators Association (RERA) of Southern Africa etc) and develop tailored advisory approaches
• Coordinate the implementation of projects with GIZ experts, international short-term and long-term expert consulting teams, ensuring synergy and complementarity with EU support and development partner activities active in the region (e. g in Ethiopia and South Africa)
• Administer international consulting service contracts and coordinate expert assignments in the areas of institutional reforms in energy policy, regulation, and markets as well as managing administrative support processes
• Foster exchange networks and manage implementation partnerships with strategic multilateral and regional partner organizations
• Organize workshops, seminars, and other events to facilitate information sharing among government decision-makers, industry representatives, and experts incl. representing GET.trans-form at public events
Qualifications
• Post-graduate university degree in economics, law, policy, engineering or environmental science or any related discipline with a focus on sustainable energy and/or power systems
• Many years of relevant work experience in the field of sustainable energy
• Experience in working with government bodies including energy and finance ministries, regu-lators, power pools, and also private sector stakeholders such financiers, industry associations,
• Good knowledge base on energy planning, enabling frameworks & market development and
• Proven ability to work in partnership with a range of stakeholders, including governments, private sector, financiers, international organisations and non-profit involved in sustainable energy
• Experience in project management and in coordinating a team of experts (incl. activity and budget planning, procurement, monitoring, and evaluation, etc.)
• Experience of working in public energy sector entities on the African continent is a strong asset especially in Southern and East Africa Region (e.g. Ethiopia, South Africa, etc)
• Fluency in English, African language skills are an advantage, good knowledge of German is
