Role Objectives

Besides forced displacement & deepening humanitarian needs, harsh weather conditions characterized by severe windstorms, heavy rains & flash flood events in 2024, directly affected households across 75 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) sites & host communities in Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, Sokoto & Yobe States. These incidents resulted in varying degrees of damage to camp infrastructure, including shelters.
In comparison to 2023 this year there is a 28% increase in the number of affected individuals, these events have also increased in severity. This has undermined the progress made in enhancing the resilience of communities, particularly the over 1.2 million IDPs, who are now exposed to a multitude of protection & health risks.
Our clients activities in Shelter & Non Foof Item (S & NFI) response have been tailored to post flood response to assist people affected by riverine & flash floods in Borno, Bauchi & Sokoto states. In Borno state, the response will specifically focus on floods affected LGAs of Bama, Monguno, Dikwa, Ngala & MMC / Jere.
Working under the overall supervision of the S – NFI Project Officer & the direct supervision of the S – NFI Project Assistants, the selected candidate will be responsible for supporting in the planning, implementation, monitoring & reporting of S & NFI activities, including but not limited to:
Support in conducting S & NFI needs assessments according to standard tools provided by the S / NFI unit in IDP camps & out of camp locations.
Support in conducting key informant interviews & focus group discussions as required by program needs.
Arrange, plan & carry out any distributions related to shelter & / or NFI activities maintaining all protocols & standard operating procedures & liaising with other relevant staff including but not limited to emergency response & office of staff security.
Support in ensuring that all distributions are well documented & reported as required.
Support in conducting post distribution & post intervention monitoring of activities, including beneficiary feedback surveys guided by standard tools provided by the unit.
Support to collect, record & report on success stories from different S / NFI activities, including transcription & translation of qualitative data such as audio visual contents into word documents.
Liaise with other program units & all relevant stakeholders (humanitarian partners, government, security forces) in the planning & implementation of activities.
Support the Housing, Land & Property (HLP) Officer & the Shelter – HLP Field Support Assistant in activities related to HLP integration in shelter programs, including tenure mapping, HLP assessments, verification of ownership, etc.
Report timely & follow up on any HLP issue arising.
Ensure that the data collected through any of the above channels is of high quality & accurately reflects the responses received.
Report in a timely manner to the supervisor(s) / office any challenge encountered & provide recommendations on how to address such challenge(s).
Prepare, maintain & update S & NFI beneficiary registration matrices & source documents by collecting relevant data from the field, as well as maintain effective communication with the supervisor to provide updates on the progress & the challenges encountered during the field data collection.
Organize & maintain records of all documents related to conducted activities, such as; reports, pictures, success stories & share them whenever requested.
Support shelter construction activities where needed & particularly by keeping detailed stock counts of materials according to templates provided, as well as support Shelter Technical Supervisors in preparing attendance & payment sheets for Casual Labourers.
Report any deviations of NFI to the Project Assistants & take corrective measures if required.
Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

Certificate or Diploma or Degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Business, Economics or any relevant field with excellent knowledge of field operations & community engagement with a minimum 2 years of experience in similar capacity, preferably within the humanitarian or development fields.
Excellent knowledge of working with Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, Power Point.
Knowledge of working with mobile data collection apps such as Kobo & ODK.
Minimum knowledge of humanitarian shelter / NFI programming is highly desirable.
Knowledge of participatory methods & community engagement approaches.
Ability to work quickly & accurately & pay attention to details.
An understanding of data confidentiality issues.
Ability to multitask, excellent organizational & administrative skills.
Willingness to assist efficiently in a very busy environment.
Ability to meet deadlines & work under pressure.
Ability to stay in high risk areas for prolonged duration with remote management from supervisors.
Ability to present clear & concise information & good written & verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively & harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures & professional backgrounds.

Capacity to carry out focused group discussions & assessments in deep field locations.
Fluency in English language is required (oral & written).
Working knowledge of Tiv is desired.
