Job Summary
The Protection Officer will be responsible for leading protection activities, including case management, awareness campaigns, community engagement, and referrals. The role requires strong knowledge of protection principles, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, and humanitarian standards, with the ability to work closely with communities and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement protection activities in line with BOWDI’s mission and donor requirements.
- Supervise case management, psychosocial support, and facilitate referrals for vulnerable individuals.
- Organize community sensitization, awareness, and training sessions on protection, rights, and safeguarding.
- Monitor and report protection risks, incidents, and trends in the community.
- Work with partners, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to strengthen protection mechanisms.
- Ensure adherence to protection principles, including confidentiality, safety, and dignity of beneficiaries.
- Support in developing and disseminating Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.
- Prepare timely and accurate reports on protection activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Law, Psychology, Development Studies, or related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in protection, GBV, child protection, or humanitarian programming (NGO/INGO experience is an advantage).
- Strong understanding of protection principles, human rights, gender, and safeguarding.
- Experience in community engagement, case management, and referral pathways.
- Good knowledge of Nigerian humanitarian context, especially in conflict-affected areas.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and report-writing skills.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Hausa, Kanuri, or other local languages is an asset.
- High level of integrity, empathy, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
