APADE in collaboration with WFP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MASTER CARD FOUNDATION, is to implement a project in Northeast Nigeria (Adamawa State). The aim is to strengthen local food systems and create job opportunities for young women and men through an inclusive agribusiness value chain. This initiative aligns with WFP’s objectives of strengthening local food systems and creating job opportunities for young women and men, transforming lives, and enhancing private sector engagement to achieve zero hunger by promoting financial inclusion and empowering youth economically.
In this context, APADE is seeking to recruit a suitable, competent, and dedicated candidate to fill the position of Safety and Security Assistant. He/she will monitor, analyze, and communicate security-related information to safeguard project staff, partners, and activities.
The role requires close coordination with WFP security teams, local authorities, and community stakeholders to enable the uninterrupted delivery of project outcomes.
Details of the job
Job Title: Security and Safety Assistant. Location: Adamawa State.
Duty Station: Adamawa State
Duration: 12 months with the possibility of extension. Reports to: Security Officer
Starting Date: September 2025. Key Responsibilities:
1. Workplace Safety Management
- Conduct risk assessments in agricultural, processing, and distribution settings to identify hazards (e.g., machinery, chemicals).
- Implement safety protocols, provide protective equipment, and ensure compliance with occupational health standards.
- Train young workers, especially women, on safe practices to reduce accidents and foster a culture of safety.
2. Asset Security
- Safeguard physical assets (crops, equipment, storage facilities) through surveillance, access controls, and collaboration with local security.
- Address cybersecurity risks in digital supply chain systems to protect data and operations.
3. Participant Safety and Inclusion
- Develop anti-harassment policies and safe reporting mechanisms to ensure a secure environment for young women and men.
- Promote gender-sensitive safety measures to encourage equitable participation.
4. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure adherence to food safety, labor, and environmental regulations.
- Prepare for audits and inspections to avoid legal penalties and maintain project continuity.
5. Capacity Building and Skill Development
- Train youth in safety protocols, emergency response, and security management, enhancing their employability in local industries.
- Mentor field workers to take on roles as safety officers or security personnel within the project.
6. Crisis Preparedness and Response
- Design emergency plans for natural disasters, accidents, or security breaches.
- Conduct drills to ensure swift recovery and minimize operational disruptions.
7. Community Engagement.
- Collaborate with local leaders to align safety measures with cultural norms, fostering community trust.
- Educate communities on food safety practices to strengthen the local food ecosystem.
8. Monitoring and Reporting
- Document incidents, audits, and training outcomes to refine safety strategies. o Report progress to stakeholders, demonstrating the project’s commitment to safety and sustainability.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s in Security Management, Conflict Studies, International Relations, or any related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in security sector, with a minimum of 3 years in humanitarian security and safety roles.
- Proven working experience in Northeast Nigeria.
- Having played the same roles under a WFP-funded project is an added advantage.
- Speaking of the local language (Hausa) is an added advantage
Technical Skills/Competencies:
- Proficiency in security analysis tools (e.g., GIS mapping, incident reporting software).
- Moderate knowledge in data analysis and report-writing skills.
- Ability to operate and train people on advanced security gadgets.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret complex security dynamics and provide actionable recommendations.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Work effectively in diverse, conflict-sensitive environments.
- Adaptability: Respond swiftly to evolving security situations.
- Communication: Clearly convey security guidelines to non-technical staff and stakeholders.
- Team Collaboration: Build trust with local communities, authorities, and project teams.
- Ability to develop and implement innovative strategies that leverage technology and new practices to enhance clear security information and communication.
- Strong networking abilities to build partnerships with local partners, Institutions, and other stakeholders to create sustainable pathways.
- Proactive approach to assist in addressing challenges and adapting strategies in response to changing circumstances within the project environment.

- Ability to plan, balance, and cope with competing priorities.
