Background
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) was established in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein and works globally to respond to humanitarian crises, supporting individuals affected by conflict and disaster. Currently operating in over 40 countries and more than 20 U.S. cities, the IRC delivers critical services that restore dignity, safety, and hope for those displaced by emergencies.
In partnership with ALIMA, COOPI, LHI, and GISCOR, the IRC is delivering an integrated emergency response targeting nutrition outcomes in the SoKaZa states (Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara). The goal of this intervention is to reduce child malnutrition and mortality while improving access to essential nutrition services.
⸻
About the Role
We are seeking Enumerators to support the Semi-Quantitative Evaluation of Access and Coverage (SQUEAC) assessment across selected LGAs in the SoKaZa region. This assessment will examine the accessibility and effectiveness of community-based nutrition treatment services (IMAM/CMAM) and generate practical recommendations to improve program reach and sustainability.
⸻
Objective of the Assignment
• Estimate CMAM program coverage in selected LGAs.
• Identify challenges and enablers to treatment access.
• Analyze spatial distribution of program access.
• Support training and build local capacity to independently implement future SQUEAC assessments.
• Provide data to inform program improvements.
⸻
Key Responsibilities
• Participate in training sessions on SQUEAC methodology.
• Conduct field-level data collection using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
• Engage community members and stakeholders in interviews, FGDs, and screening activities.
• Document anthropometric data and identify SAM cases based on defined criteria.
• Adhere to ethical standards, including informed consent and data confidentiality.
• Collaborate with survey teams, community leaders, and program personnel.
• Support data verification and interpretation as required by supervisors.
⸻
Eligibility Criteria
• Minimum of a diploma in a health or science-related field (Medicine, Nursing, Nutrition, or related discipline). Secondary school graduates with relevant experience may also apply.
• Prior experience in community-level surveys, especially in nutrition or health, is an advantage.
• Strong communication skills and fluency in local languages.
• Comfortable working in rural and low-resource settings.
• Knowledge of CMAM or IMAM programming is desirable.
⸻
Methodology Overview
The SQUEAC survey is structured in three stages:
1. Desk Review & Initial Data Analysis:
Using routine CMAM data and qualitative feedback to identify trends, barriers, and strengths.
2. Small Area Surveys:
Field-based case-finding to test coverage hypotheses using adaptive sampling.
3. Wide Area Coverage Survey:
Larger sample-based coverage estimation through Bayesian analysis using prior findings from stages 1 and 2.
⸻
Additional Notes
• The assignment will involve extensive travel within selected LGAs in Sokoto, Katsina, and Zamfara States.
• Enumerators will work under the supervision of experienced consultants and technical staff.
• Safety and context considerations will be prioritized throughout the assignment.
