Job Purpose:
The Protection Specialist will be responsible for the effective implementation of protection programming, including child protection, gender-based violence (GBV), and other relevant protection sectors. The role supports strategic development, capacity building, technical support, and quality assurance to ensure that protection principles and standards are integrated into all programmatic interventions.

Job Purpose:
The Protection Specialist is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of protection programming, including child protection, gender-based violence (GBV), and other relevant protection sectors. The role supports strategic development, capacity building, technical support, and quality assurance to ensure that protection principles and standards are integrated into all programmatic interventions.
Key Responsibilities of a Protection Specialist
Program Design and Implementation
Lead and support the design, planning, and implementation of protection interventions in line with international standards and organizational strategies.
Conduct protection risk assessments, participatory needs analyses, and context-specific protection assessments in the field.
Develop, review, and adapt Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), case management protocols, referral pathways, and protection monitoring tools.
Ensure integration of Age, Gender, and Diversity considerations across all protection activities.
Technical Support and Quality Assurance
Provide technical guidance and day-to-day support to field teams on protection service delivery, including case management, psychosocial support, community-based protection, GBV, and child protection.
Ensure adherence to protection minimum standards, IASC guidelines, and organizational safeguarding and PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) policies.
Conduct regular quality assurance and monitoring visits to ensure protection activities are implemented effectively, ethically, and accountably.
Identify protection gaps and provide recommendations for program improvement and adaptation.
Safeguarding and PSEA
Serve as a safeguarding focal point, promoting a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for beneficiaries and staff.
Ensure safeguarding principles are embedded in all programming and operational activities.
Support the development, dissemination, and training of staff and community structures on safeguarding and PSEA policies and procedures.
Facilitate confidential reporting and response mechanisms for safeguarding and SEA-related concerns, in collaboration with relevant focal persons.
Capacity Building
Organize and deliver training, coaching, and mentoring sessions for staff, community-based workers, and local partners on protection principles, case management, GBV, child safeguarding, and ethical referrals.
Strengthen internal capacity to mainstream protection across sectors such as WASH, gender and Education.
Promote survivor-centered and rights-based approaches in all protection responses.
Coordination and Representation
Actively participate in Protection Cluster coordination meetings and relevant sub-sectors, such as GBV and Child Protection Working Groups.
Represent the organization in inter-agency coordination forums and build/maintain effective partnerships with government bodies, UN agencies, and national/local NGOs.
Contribute to proposal development, donor reports, and technical inputs for resource mobilization and advocacy initiatives.
Information Management and Reporting
Ensure accurate, confidential, and timely documentation of protection incidents, case files, and activity data in line with data protection and ethical standards.
Develop and submit regular protection reports, including monthly updates, quarterly progress reports, and donor-specific reports.
Contribute to protection-related assessments, research, and advocacy materials aimed at influencing policy and programming.
Qualifications and Experience:
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Law, Social Work, Psychology, Human Rights, International Relations, or related field.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in protection programming, including GBV or child protection, in humanitarian or development settings.
Strong understanding of protection principles, international human rights law, and humanitarian frameworks.
Experience in project cycle management, proposal writing, and donor reporting.
Familiarity with coordination mechanisms such as the Protection Cluster.
Skills and Competencies:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
Fluency in English (written and spoken); knowledge of local languages is an asset.
Ability to work independently and under pressure in a complex environment.
