Global Peace Development (GPD) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in April 2002 and focuses on promoting peace for development in Nigeria. The organization envisions a country where peace and development is enjoyed by all. GPD seeks to build peace, gender equality, social justice, and foster democracy and governance at the community, local, state, and national levels.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Consultant to Conduct Community Outreaches on Mutually Beneficial Climate-Smart Agriculture Knowledge Sharing

Locations: Benue, Kaduna, Katsina, and Plateau

  • Global Peace Development (GPD), through the Promoting Agropastoralism Reconciliation and Resilience for Sustainable Livelihood and Peace (PARSULP) project, is implementing integrated peacebuilding and resilience-strengthening interventions in Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, and Katsina States.
  • The project seeks to promote inclusive livelihood systems and foster peaceful coexistence between farming and herding communities through participatory dialogues, climate-adaptive livelihood practices, and joint resource management.
  • As part of the project’s livelihood and peace consolidation component, GPD intends to conduct community outreach sessions on mutually beneficial Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA).
  • These outreaches will enhance local understanding of sustainable agricultural practices, pasture regeneration, soil and water conservation, and collaborative land-use systems that reduce conflict triggers while improving productivity and resilience.

Purpose of the Consultancy

  • The purpose of this consultancy is to design and facilitate community-level outreach sessions across the four target LGAs to promote practical, climate-smart, and conflict-sensitive agricultural knowledge sharing between farmers and herders.

Objectives of the Assignment

  • Facilitate joint farmer-herder learning sessions on sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices.
  • Demonstrate techniques that improve productivity while reducing environmental degradation.
  • Strengthen local awareness of climate adaptation and early warning mechanisms for conflict prevention.
  • Promote mutual understanding and knowledge exchange between farming and herding communities.
  • Support the development of community-level action points to sustain collaborative climate smart practices.

Scope of Work and Tasks

  • Review relevant PARSULP documents and PRA findings to contextualize outreach messages.
  • Develop a Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Outreach Guide, including participatory tools and local illustrations.
  • Conduct community outreaches in the four project LGAs (Buruku, Riyom, Soba, and Daura) in close coordination with GPD’s field officers.
  • Use participatory facilitation techniques such as demonstrations, storytelling, field illustrations, and dialogue circles.
  • Document community feedback, local innovations, and gender/youth participation.
  • Produce a concise Outreach Report summarizing key lessons, attendance, photos, and recommendations for scaling up CSA initiatives.

Deliverables
The consultant will deliver:

  • Inception note outlining methodology, tools, and schedule.
  • CSA outreach guide and participant materials.
  • Daily outreach records (attendance, photos, key issues raised).
  • Final Outreach Report (maximum 65 pages) summarizing outcomes and community recommendations.

Duration and Level of Effort:
The assignment will be completed within 15 working days, structured as follows:

  • 2 days – Review of materials and outreach design.
  • 11 days – Field facilitation in the four project locations.
  • 2 days – Report writing and submission.

Required Qualification and Education

  • Advanced Degree in Agriculture, Climate Change Adaptation, Rural.

Development, or related discipline:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Climate-Smart Agriculture, community extension services, or resilience programming.
  • Demonstrated experience working with farmer and pastoralist communities in Northern Nigeria.
  • Excellent facilitation and participatory training skills.
  • Strong writing and communication skills in English (fluency in Hausa and local dialects is an advantage).

Reporting and Supervision:

  • The consultant will report directly to the Project Manager (PARSULP Project) and will work closely with the Director of Programs, State Project Officers, and Field Officers in all locations.
