Introduction

The Climate Vulnerable Forum and V20 Global Internship programme (CVF-V20 Global Internship) is focused on giving both current university students and postgraduate students the opportunity of gaining valuable experience in the field of climate finance and advocacy. The internship programme is designed to complement studies especially in the field of Climate Finance and Sustainability by giving practical exposure to focused, young and brilliant students, who will work with the Secretariat’s team in the design and delivery of climate resilient strategies for climate vulnerable countries. As an intern, you will experience real work and help deliver real solutions to countries that are threatened most by the effects of climate change.

Objectives of the CVF-V20 Global Internship Programme

There are three key objectives of the CVF-V20 Internship Programme.

Give students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain rich work experience in an international environment and to contribute to shaping perspectives on climate finance and advocacy
Develop a sustainable pipeline of talent for the CVF-V20 Secretariat as part of the CVF-V20’s talent development strategy.
Make the CVF-V20 more visible to the global community as it supports member countries to lead the way in resolving the climate crises that has plagued our planet.

Scope of Work

Interns will generally support the work of the various work groups in the CVF-V20 and will be guided to undertake various assignments under the supervision of Senior Officers of the Secretariat. Assignments will generally focus on the following areas:

Research and Analysis in the area of climate
Administrative/Operational Support to Senior Officers
Project/Programme Coordination and reporting
Communication (eg helping draft communication materials, updating the website)
Providing general assistance to the Secretariat with day to day tasks eg drafting correspondence, analyzing data, writing reports etc.
Detailed internship schedules will be given to all successful applicants.

Placement

Interns will be placed in the CVF-V20’s various work teams: namely Membership & Partnerships Coordination, CPP Coordination & Implementation, International Financial Reform & Trade, Financial Protection & Vertical Platforms, Regional Offices, Communications, HR/Finance/Legal/Admin. Placement in the various work teams will be based on the Assessment Panel’s recommendation.

Education

Recent graduate (within the last 12 months) or current student in the final year of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Policy, Finance, Economics, International Relations, Sustainable Development, Law, Human Resources, or a related field.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong research and analytical skills, with experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis, including financial analysis.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English [specify additional languages if required, e.g., French, Spanish].
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with financial modeling tools or software (e.g., Excel advanced functions, HR software) is an advantage.
Knowledge of climate finance, transaction advisory, international climate policy frameworks (e.g., Paris Agreement, SDGs),
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, with attention to detail and discretion in handling sensitive information.

Eligibility

The CVF-V20 Global Internship Programme is based on merit. The Internship selection team will look out for candidates from CVF-V20 member states who have a keen interest and background in the field of climate finance, advocacy and sustainability, as well as international development generally. Potential candidates must be able to adapt to new environments and be able to work with team members from diverse cultural backgrounds. Internship work will be supervised by senior officers of the CVF-V20 who are spread across the various CVF-V20 regional locations globally. Eligible applicants should be students in the penultimate year of College or should have recently graduated from College.

Candidates must have an excellent command of English or French. Knowledge of Arabic or Spanish will be a significant advantage.

CVF-V20 Internships are unpaid. All costs and responsibilities associated with the internship including travel, visa fees, transport, insurance, accommodation and living expenses will be borne by the intern or by the sponsoring institutions.

Duration of Internship

Internships will typically last from one (1) month to twelve (12) months.

Other Information on the CVF-V20 Global Internship Programme

Successful Candidates will be required to undertake the internship within two months of acceptance into the programme.

Interns will be required to abide by the CVF-V20 Code of Conduct and Confidentiality and commit to nondisclosure of all unpublished information to which they may be privy in the course of their internship.
