Building Bridges Project for Creatives: Cohort 1 (Nigeria)
Are you a Nigerian creative passionate about using your art to address social challenges? The Building Bridges Project, a FREE training program by the BBC in partnership with the Simply Poetry Foundation, offers a unique opportunity to enhance your skills and create impactful art. This program is designed to empower creatives to counter polarizing narratives through socially conscious art.
Program Highlights:
• Free and Fully Funded: This program is entirely free for participants, and you will receive a stipend during the training period.
• Comprehensive Training: An 8-week program comprising 6 weeks of online learning, followed by a 2-week fully-sponsored residency in Abuja.
• Skills Development: Learn the theory and practice of socially conscious art and gain essential skills for creating art with deeper social impact.
• Focus Areas: This cohort seeks creatives skilled in Spoken Word Poetry, Dance, Music, Visual Arts, Film/Theatre Production, and Script Writing.
• Geographical Diversity: The program will admit two creatives from each geopolitical zone of Nigeria.
Eligibility:
• Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old.
• Must reside in Nigeria.
• Must demonstrate a passion for using art to engage with social issues, particularly tribalism and religious bigotry.
Application Requirements:
• Proof of age (photocopy of an official ID)
• State of residence
• Creative practice
• Motivation statement (max. 150 words) highlighting your passion for using art to address social issues
• Creative portfolio (social media handle or Google link)
• Reference to a specific creative work addressing a social problem (Google link)
