Borno Women Development Initiative (BOWDI) – Job Opportunity: Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Officer

Borno Women Development Initiative (BOWDI) is a women-led, registered non-governmental, non-profit organization committed to empowering women and girls. With its head office located in Borno State, Nigeria, BOWDI has a long-standing history of providing vital humanitarian and development services throughout the Northeast, focusing on education, peacebuilding, advocacy, food security, livelihood programs, and protection initiatives.

BOWDI is currently seeking a highly qualified and dedicated individual to fill the position of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Officer. This is a full-time position with locations in Bama, Pulka, and Monguno, Borno State.

Job Description:

The GBV Officer will play a critical role in the effective planning, coordination, and implementation of all GBV-related activities within a designated project or set of projects. Working under the supervision of a senior team member, the GBV Officer will collaborate closely with other project staff, partner organizations, and community stakeholders to ensure the timely and high-quality delivery of GBV services. All activities must be conducted in strict accordance with donor requirements and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management:

•  Take primary responsibility for the daily management and implementation of GBV-related activities, ensuring full compliance with project proposals, donor agreements, logical frameworks, and established timelines. Promptly communicate any challenges or delays to the supervisor.

•  Lead project planning efforts, overseeing implementation, and managing budget utilization to ensure efficient resource allocation and alignment with expected outputs.

•  Support the collection and analysis of sex- and age-disaggregated data (quantitative, qualitative, and anecdotal) to inform program development and effectively address the needs of beneficiaries.

•  Establish and maintain robust project monitoring and evaluation systems using appropriate tools to track progress indicators and ensure accountability.

•  Facilitate the active participation of all stakeholders, including BOWDI program staff, partner organizations, and community members, fostering a collaborative and participatory approach.

•  Develop and deliver awareness-raising and staff capacity-building initiatives focused on GBV prevention and response, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices.

•  Contribute to the design and production of communication materials (e.g., leaflets, posters, brochures) to raise community awareness of GBV issues and promote positive behavior change.

•  Conduct training sessions for volunteers, Protection monitors, and social workers to enhance their capacity in GBV case management, ensuring the provision of quality services.

•  Serve as a focal point for gender-related issues and activities within the project, providing expert guidance and support.

•  Perform any other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Technical Responsibilities:

•  Manage GBV case intake, identification, documentation, and case management in line with established GBV classification standards, ensuring all procedures are followed with utmost care and confidentiality.

•  Oversee the day-to-day management and operational efficiency of safe spaces, ensuring that these critical resources are effectively utilized and maintained.

•  Coordinate closely with PSS Officers, Legal Officers, Social Workers, and other service providers to facilitate comprehensive service referrals, including health, mental health, shelter, Non-Food Items (NFIs), and legal support.

•  Ensure strict adherence to the Survivor-Centered Approach and all protection principles throughout all interactions with survivors and in the management of safe spaces, upholding ethical and compassionate practices.

•  Facilitate regular peer group sessions (bi-weekly/monthly) to provide crucial psychosocial support on thematic issues relevant to survivors, fostering resilience and healing.

•  Organize community outreach initiatives and support awareness campaigns in collaboration with the project team, promoting education and awareness about GBV.

•  Document all activities and maintain accurate records, both digital and physical, within established reporting timelines, ensuring data integrity and accountability.

•  Prepare and submit timely and accurate GBV reports and project updates on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, providing clear and concise information on progress and challenges.

•  Ensure the secure and confidential documentation of all survivor case files and related documents, adhering to strict ethical guidelines and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
