Nigerian Electricity Supply Corporation (NESCO) Nigeria Limited is an electric utility Company providing economic and highly reliable electricity service in Nigeria since 1929. It is incorporated under the Companies Act of the Laws of Nigeria. Its core business is to generate, distribute, supply and retail electric power in Plateau State and adjacent States.
In its drive to ensure improved and sustained efficiency and effectiveness in delivery of its mandate with strategic leadership and management, NESCO (Nigeria) Limited is seeking to recruit fully qualified, highly motivated, and well experienced persons to fill the vacant positions of Lead, Operations & Maintenance, Maintenance Planning Engineer, Machinist/Turner and Power Plant Operators that have arisen in the Corporation’s Generation Department. Currently, power generation is from hydro power plants.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Power Plant Operator, MACHINIST/ TURNER, MAINTENANCE PLANNING ENGINEER and LEADS OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
Location: Kurra Falls / Bukuru, Jos – Plateau
Purpose of the Job
- Monitoring the operations of the Turbine.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Power Plant Operator shall therefore be responsible, but not limited, for the following:
- Run the operations of the turbine and associated equipment
- Ensure timely and up-to-date information on the operations of the turbine and other associated plant equipment
- Collation and interpretation of data and results on the operations of the turbine
- Physical inspection of equipment including turbine
- Record and analyze data on power output, water levels, and system performance
- Reporting major issues to the maintenance team
- Prepare operational reports
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Participate in safety drills and report any hazardous conditions or incidents
- Ensure safe shutdown and startup of plant systems as needed
- Prepare periodic reports for the attention of the Head, Generation
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift-In-Charge
Minimum Educational & Professional Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge
- Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of three (3) years substantial practical relevant post qualifying hands-on working experience preferably in the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of major engineering works.
- Applicants with actual hydro power plants operations, maintenance refurbishment/overhaul, modernisation and upgrade experience will have a strong added advantage
Attributes and Competencies:
- Knowledge of power generation process and safety requirements
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures with respect to plant operation and maintenance
- Technical troubleshooting skills
- Data interpretation, report writing and presentation skills.
