Technical Skills Development Project (TSDP)

The Technical Skills Development Project is a joint effort by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA). Its goal is to help young people in Nigeria gain practical skills and knowledge needed for employment and starting their own businesses.

Nigeria faces challenges like unemployment and the need for skilled workers. As more young people finish school, it is important to provide quality technical and vocational training to prepare them for jobs. TSDP was created in response to a 2008 survey that showed shortages and low skill levels in areas such as mechanical maintenance, welding, electrical maintenance, auto mechatronics, automation, and instrumentation.

Since 2009, TSDP has focused on teaching skills that match what industries need. The project aims to reduce unemployment and poverty by providing training that leads to real job opportunities.

The project works with NECA member companies, ITF training centers, selected organizations, and technical colleges across Nigeria. These partners provide training, equipment, and facilities needed for practical learning.

The main goals of TSDP are to give young people skills for work and business, support economic growth through technical training, and improve technical education in schools.
