IPOPI JOSE DRABWELL RESEARCH GRANT PROGRAMME

Are you driven to advance scientific and clinical research in immunodeficiencies? Seize the opportunity with the IPOPI Jose Drabwell Research Grant Programme. With a total grant sum of €30,000, we’re fuelling innovation in the field.

Scope:

The Jose Drabwell Research Grant Programme embodies Jose’s vision of a future where patient-centred research sparks innovation — leading to earlier diagnoses, new or improved treatments, and a better quality of life for people living with primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) and related conditions. Discover the remarkable legacy of Jose Drabwell — find out more here.

This initiative aims to foster scientific and clinical research in the field of PIDs and associated disorders. As the field rapidly advances, IPOPI believes it is essential to encourage both ongoing and novel research efforts to continuously enhance healthcare and patient outcomes.

Projects should be patient-centred and knowledge-generating.

A broad set of topics and disciplines may be considered, ranging from fundamental to clinical research or patient-derived studies, as well as medical anthropology, health economics, ethics, etc.

Who can apply: In keeping with IPOPI’s global reach, the application will be open to researchers, clinicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals (HCP), as well as patient organisations worldwide, with applicants from low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) being strongly encouraged to apply.

Funding:  Grants will be based on project milestones and needs. With a total grant sum of €30,000, IPOPI aims to fund a minimum of 4 projects.

Timeframe:  All projects should be concluded within a timeframe of up to 2 years.

Evaluation: Proposals will undergo rigorous evaluation by the IPOPI review committee based on the following criteria:

  • Patients – Centredness
  • Innovation and Impact
  • Budget Appropriateness
  • Clear Milestones
  • Feasibility
  • Opportunity for Outcome Communication
  • Project Sustainability

How to Apply: Interested applicants can find more details on the application process and conditions on our Application Guidelines page, from which applicants can also access the application form.

Outcome and Follow-up: Results will be shared on October 1st, 2025. Selected projects will receive support throughout the research process, with opportunities for dissemination through IPOPI channels.

Ready to make a difference in the field of immunodeficiencies? Apply now and let’s drive research forward, together!

Climate Change and Human Health Seed Grants

NOTE: Beginning April 30, 2025, we will no longer accept phone calls or emails regarding the Climate Change and Human Health Seed Grants program. Instead, we will hold nine Zoom sessions per quarter to address questions from potential applicants. Sign up for notification for information. Only .org, .edu, and .ca email domains are eligible for subscription.

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund aims to stimulate the growth of new connections between thinkers working in largely disconnected fields, who, together, may change the course of climate change’s impact on human health. Between Fall 2023 and Summer 2026, we will dedicate $1 million to supporting small, early-stage grants of $2,500–$50,000 toward achieving this goal.

We are primarily, but not exclusively, interested in activities that build connections between basic and early biomedical scientific approaches and ecological, environmental, geological, geographic, and planetary-scale thinking, as well as with population-focused fields, including epidemiology and public health, demography, economics, and urban planning. Also of interest is work piloting new approaches or interactions aimed at reducing the impact of health-centered activities, such as developing more sustainable systems for healthcare, care delivery, and biomedical research.

Another area of interest is preparation for the impacts of extreme weather and other crises that can lead to large-scale disruptions, immediately affecting human health and the delivery of healthcare. Public outreach, climate communication, and education efforts focused on the intersection of climate and health are also appropriate for this call. This program supports work conceived through many kinds of creative thinking. Successful applicants include academic scientists, physicians, and public health experts, community organizations, science outreach centers, non-biomedical academic departments, and more.

Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis through July 2026. A review will be conducted quarterly.

Deadline dates for the upcoming cycles are:

  • July 24, 2025
  • Oct 23, 2025
  • Jan 22, 2026
  • April 23, 2026
  • July 23, 2026
