Apply to inec recruitment for upcoming elections in Nigeria

As preparations intensify for the November 8, 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the opening of its online recruitment portal for temporary ad-hoc staff. This recruitment drive is a critical step in ensuring a smooth, credible, and transparent electoral process.

INEC made the announcement on Monday, September 15, 2025, stating that applications will be accepted until October 5, 2025. The recruitment will cover a variety of key roles needed for the effective conduct of the election.

Why This Recruitment Matters

Elections in Nigeria require thousands of temporary workers to assist INEC in managing polling units, collating results, and ensuring proper use of technology such as the BVAS (Bimodal Voter Accreditation System). Without ad-hoc staff, it would be impossible for the commission to cover every ward, local government area, and registration centre.

By recruiting civil servants, NYSC members, teachers, and ICT professionals, INEC hopes to build a reliable workforce that will help in conducting a credible election in Anambra, a state that has historically drawn national attention during its governorship polls.

Available Positions

INEC is currently recruiting for the following temporary positions:

Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs):

Responsible for supervising several polling units within a registration area.

Will oversee presiding officers and ensure smooth operations at their assigned centres.

Presiding Officers (POs):

Assigned directly to polling units.

Responsible for managing voting, accrediting voters, and ensuring accurate ballot counting.

Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs):

Work alongside presiding officers to handle voter verification, ballot issuance, and general support during voting.

Registration Area Technicians (RATECHs):

Specially trained ICT personnel responsible for operating and maintaining election technology such as BVAS machines.

This role is strictly reserved for INEC ICT staff (state and headquarters).

Registration Area Centre (RAC) Managers:

Usually drawn from school heads or senior staff of institutions hosting the RAC.

They will provide logistics support and manage registration area centres.

Eligibility Requirements

To ensure credibility and professionalism, INEC has outlined strict criteria for applicants:

Residency Requirement:

Applicants must reside in Anambra State. However, candidates from neighboring states like Delta, Enugu, and Imo may also be considered, especially if they live close to the border areas.

Political Neutrality:

Applicants must not belong to any political party or publicly support any political candidate.

Role-Specific Requirements:

Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs): Civil servants on Grade Levels 10–14 from federal ministries, agencies, or the public service.

Presiding Officers (POs) and Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs): Serving or recently discharged NYSC members (2022–2025), INEC staff, or qualified federal tertiary students.
