WASH SUPERVISOR AT ALIMA KATSINA 

The Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA) is an international medical organization, founded in 2009. ALIMA’s aim is to provide a high standard of healthcare in situations of emergency or medical disaster and to improve the practice of humanitarian medicine by developing innovative projects associated with medical research.

The WASH Logistics Supervisor is responsible for the daily implementation, monitoring, and reporting of ALIMA’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities in the assigned project area. The role supports the delivery of safe water, appropriate sanitation, and hygiene promotion in health facilities and communities in line with ALIMA standards and donor requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Implementation of WASH Activities

  • Supervise the implementation of water supply, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure projects (e.g., latrines, waste zones, water tanks, drainage systems).
  • Monitor construction and rehabilitation activities in health facilities and communities to ensure quality, safety, and adherence to technical standards.
  • Oversee hygiene promotion campaigns, distribution of hygiene kits, and related behavior change communication activities.
  • Ensure gender-sensitive and culturally appropriate WASH programming.

Supervision and Capacity Building

  • Manage and provide day-to-day supervision of WASH field teams (e.g., hygiene promoters, WASH technicians, laborers).
  • Organize on-the-job training and capacity building for WASH staff and community WASH committees.
  • Ensure staff and contractors follow health and safety protocols during fieldwork.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and quality of WASH activities.
  • Collect and analyze data on water quality, sanitation coverage, and hygiene behavior change.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports for the WASH Manager, highlighting challenges, achievements, and recommendations.
  • Support in needs assessments and baseline/endline surveys as required.

Coordination and Representation

  • Liaise with health, logistics, and other program teams to ensure WASH activities are well-integrated.
  • Represent ALIMA at the community level and during coordination meetings as delegated.
  • Support in managing relationships with local authorities, partners, and contractors related to WASH implementation.

5. Logistics and Administrative Support

  • Support procurement planning for WASH supplies and materials.
  • Ensure proper stock management and usage of WASH items in coordination with the logistics team.
  • Follow up on the delivery and distribution of WASH NFI kits in target locations.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Degree or diploma in Public Health, Environmental Health, Civil Engineering, Water/Sanitation Engineering, or related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of professional experience in WASH programming in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Experience supervising construction or rehabilitation of WASH infrastructure.
  • Prior experience working with NGOs or international organizations, preferably in emergency contexts.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of WASH standards (e.g., SPHERE, WHO)
  • Effective team supervision and capacity-building skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken); knowledge of local languages is an asset
